At this point the injury situation is just stupid, now Gerso is reportedly out to have surgery on his wrist. Here's everyone who's out now. Matt Besler (hamstring): 2-4 weeks Jimmy Medranda (knee): out until June Erik Hurtado (knee): 2-3 months (From late March) Roger Espinoza (PCL sprain): 2-3 months Rodney Wallace (hip): 4-6 months Jaylin Lindsey (knee): 4-5 months (From early April) Gerso Fernandes (wrist): unknown That's not even factoring in all the knocks that have kept people out.
Peter Vermes Issues Draft Order For Cauldron Members As Injury Crises Deepens https://t.co/ylg3eDjdwE— The Nutmeg News (@TheNutmegNews) May 1, 2019
They said they canceled training today because there were only six players fit. And I'm more frustrated than ever that Busio is gone on some bullshit kiddie international thing. Urgh.
It was yesterday's training technically, he also didn't say only 6 guys were fit, he said 6 for training, guys are given breaks at different times of the week based on the way training goes and each players individual schedule. Peter Vermes says this is probably the most guys #SportingKC has ever had out injured: “We had to cancel training yesterday cause we only had 6 guys for training.” pic.twitter.com/gCBCb21dqf— TOM MARTIN (@TwoCirclesTom) May 1, 2019
There are no similarities to Toronto 2018. There are no similarities to Toronto 2018. There are no similarities to Toronto 2018.
Sorry, thanks, I misquoted that and got pretty inaccurate. Oops! Sorry for the heart attack, @kcfooty
This. I mean, good luck to him in proving he can play against kids, but he'd be getting games against men if he'd stayed.
Well, technically 7 players available if you count Seth. Totally agree with this. I was on board with him going - for leadership opportunity - for the actual WOrld Cup competition. The qualifiers is not the best use of his time. Although based on what (very little) I saw about the first game the US might not progress without him.
All kidding on Seth aside, if we are this thin shouldn't Seth step back in as a serviceable LB and then Le Réponse can be deployed to some other hole? I mean, seriously. Just pick one.
Okay, i was wondering. Croizet has had three runouts at LB. Interestingly, according to Audi, he's taken a huge step forward with each one. V RB he was a -33 (horrible). v SJ he was a 171 (below average for an MLS starter, but didn't suck) and v NE 616 (a standout, our best outing at LB this season). Seth, meanwhile, has had five outings, one subbing in for Wallace (-35) after the injury. His best Audi games were early, LAFC (476) and Col (356). V philly he was -119, V mtl he was 47. Knowing what we do about Vermes, I'd think Croizet will hold the spot as long as he continues to show improvement (I would suggest that in addition to Audi improvement, he's looked better, as well). I also wonder if Croizet stumbles if he isn't cut loose this summer. He's getting his chance to nail down a starting role, which his salary would seem to say he should.
https://www.kansascity.com/sports/mls/sporting-kc/article230421624.html You know its bad when our injured players get injured. It's not "Champions League", its the compounding effect of starting pre-season early, training at altitude, altitude tents, no meaningful squad rotation until Cincinnati, not admitting all is lost when down 5-0 and still trotting out the best XI, etc. etc. Two months of mismanagement and here we are. Almost last place and couldn't even travel 18 last week.
I can' only really see problems with LAFC and the Monterray return leg. What am I missing? Would that have been enough, rotation of 11 for LAFC and a full week break after Montreal until Cinci, would we have been back on a semi-normal schedule? I don't know, it just all sucks. I think PV is correct in this, it isn't just the workload, it's the timing of the workload. We didn't have enough rest between last season and this one, we're too old to treat our bodies this poorly. I still believe that if healthy, this SKC side is one of the very best in MLS
I think a good number of the injuries are not attributable to overstress and all that. A lot are just badly timed poor luck. However Vermes loves to pick up players whose careers have derailed because of injuries. We've been pretty lucky with our historically snakebitten guys, but I think the bill comes due sometimes and all of our glass bones reclamations show why they're at a price point we are willing to pay.
On this roster, that would mean Felipe, Fontas and Hurtado that I can think of, so that's a good point. Also, we've tended towards experience, which usually is a good thing, but the stress of this short off season, intense early season, probably is tougher on an older team than it would be on, say, a young squad, like a NYRB, average age of 24. Our average age was 26.5 before we added Benny, so that would bump us up to about 50... But we have 8 guys at or older than 30, and 4 of them have been injured. The reality, injuries happen, and they suck but you've got to deal with them. tired bodies are more injury prone. Old bodies are more injury prone. The injury prone are more injury prone. This is a hell of a talented roster, but maybe what we're seeing is that we need to begin a complete, younger, rebuild. We all knew that point was coming. sucks that it is happening now, because I really believe in this team.
Nemeth too. Zelalem. Vermes has built his career on a very particular core. Those guys are one by one nearing retirement age. We haven't really seen any particular prospects except Salloi come near a starting spot. That's worrying.
Nemeth? His problems were more along the lines of prodigy who wasn't quite variety. I looked at his history, and he once missed 9 games in a season, but hasn't everyone and that was far and away his biggest injury. Zelalem though, yeah. On your point, he is young!
I don't necessarily know about the middle span of his career as far as injuries, but he very famously went from a tipped worldbeater at Liverpool as a youth to crashing down to lower Eredivisie ranks solely because of bad injury history. For some reason transfermarkt doesn't cover that span.
