Southgate (and all the other coaches) need to be more ruthless and actually start picking balanced squads.

Don’t care if we’ve got 3 or 4 worthy right backs, he should only pick two max.

I don't see how he can/will pick three left and right backs in the final 23. On form, I'd go Chilwell + Rose and Walker + TAA.

The only complication is that unlike Rose, Shaw doesn't have a CL final and he's also had a good season overall. Trippier has been cut some slack due to his World Cup performances but as you said, Southgate needs to be more ruthless now.

Trippier and arnold are great deliverers of the ball

Defending is only an issue (his offence is so good) if the rest of the team doesn’t help

That’s why Fabinho and Henderson etc help at Liverpool

Grealish and Sancho would be a powerful combo.

Is Walker that great of a defender though? His recovery pace is brilliant but I feel like it gets him out of jail sometimes.

He is still a top right back going forward but TAA is a much better crosser (Walkers delivery is poor).

Walker's pace is frightening though. But I think if City could trade him for TAA they would.

Grealish is calm on the ball and looks after it well. Happy to draw players towards him and make space for teammates to exploit.

He’s brave enough to lead the opposition on a merry dance if they think he’ll panic in tight spaces.

Really needed a player like that in the second half of our World Cup semi-final.

Not that great, no, but he's tidied up his defending since his younger days and I think he's a lot more consistent than TAA. Probably doesn't offer quite as much going forward though, so it really depends on what you value and how you're setting up. Someone like Mourinho would surely go for Walker. Southgate might not.

Absolutely ridiculous! Who plays a friendly this soon after the last game of the season on supposedly terrible pitch when they have the Europa League final round the corner?!? Hope it was worth it for Chelsea and now they have an injured RLC again. It’s all about the money and not players well-being! Idiots!

Apparently, he left the stadium on crutches so it’s not looking good.

Big blow for England. We really need to bring someone into at least the provisional squad; I’d call up Grealish and/or Maddison/Hughes.

Only reservation with Maddison is that I’d like to see him play with the U21s.

Out of interest, would it be possible to select a 22 man squad for the nation's league without using a single player from the 4 clubs in the European finals? I would say we have to choose players from villa and derby due to the fact they have grealish and mount. Be interesting to see if we could do that without affecting the u21's too much as well.

    Pickford
    Heaton
    Pope
    Wan bissaka
    Dunk
    Coady
    Lascelles
    smalling
    Maguire
    Chilwell
    Shaw
    grealish
    mount
    lingard
    young
    Rice
    chalobah
    Prowse
    Maddison
    Sancho
    Wilson
    Ings

That list is without a single player in all 4 European final teams and contains only 2 of the current u21s (bissaka and maddison). Suppose we have some strength in depth.

100% sure that the CL final players will be involved. It’s basically a warm up match for them

I know. Just interested to see if we could put together a half decent group without all of them being involved.

Hope Southgate calls up a suitable replacement for RLC and doesn’t just go with Barkley and Alli.

RLC our for 6 months apparently, another ruptured Achilles!!! Ffs! I’m no expert but why do I get the feeling this could have been avoided with better care for the player and not play in friendly/Charity game three days after the last game of the Premier League season.

Terrible news. Really hope Southgate isn’t thinking that we don’t need to consider a replacement because Ward-Prowse can cover that role.

He got injured in a friendly game against New England revolution .
A game that was played against the wishes of Sarri. Who the hell runs this club?

MLS teams are full of hacks and you play them before a big final..
