Let's say a country has a promising young player who is a dual national, even a tri-national. Let's say that player has been in your youth set up and is even provisionally cap tied because of playing in a FIFA youth tournament. But after getting starts for two Champions league clubs, he is given the choice to play in the U20 WC or your Federation Championship. Remembering that the former does not change his status but the latter would cap tie him forever. What do you make of the youth player choosing the youth tournament? And, do we worry about Tim Weah?
I'm not sure why things are so often that way. Remember when among all the big chances being made in YSYNT Bradenton was being done away with? Wilmer Cabrera left because of that and then we got Richie Williams in his place. Tab was a big beneficiary because he got promoted pretty fast from that point on. Cabrera is doing fine of course. Anyhoo, why does restructuring to a better configuration cause so much overturn? It doesn't need to be the case. Although I'll bet that Wicky would quickly climb the ranks if Tab leaves.
Weah is being smart and going to a tournament where he can star and make a big splash. He's on track to be an important player for the US but there is no way he is good enough for France. I doubt he is considering Jamaica or Haiti. So no worries from my part.
Weah has mentioned he wants to do the U20’s also because he’s going to move clubs this summer (been linked to Crystal Palace, Rennes, Düsseldorf so far) and wants to to be ready there for preseason.
Confirmed, zero chance he plays for us if the USMNT is on the table (and, frankly, doubtful still even if it weren't). His comments during the last CONCACAF U17 Finals cycle when he was interviewed alongside the 2 or 3 other Jamaicans on that team (prior to facing Jamaica in the group stage) made that fairly obvious. I can't speak 100% to how he identifies without knowing him personally but based on those comments, I don't think he even really considers himself a Jamaican.
Tim told me he was all about playing for the USA. He couldn’t have been more enthusiastic Why is this even a topic? This paranoia over every dual national is getting to be too much. I’m looking forward to the worries over Taylor Booth playing for Italy (or has that already happened?)
Booth played in the U17 World Cup before he obtained Italian citizenship. However, there's nothing stopping Matt Real from filing a one-time switch to play for Brazil.
So wait, you guys aren't afraid that Real will play for Brazil? Fine. You must be made of sterner stuff than I am.
FIFA doesn't worry about the passport acquisition date. He is an Italian citizen through heritage, not naturalization, so he was an Italian citizen before he played for the US.
oh lawd. Hope he on the preliminary roster for the gold cup, you don't get a Bayern academy product every day.
I was bored Just thinking that if Balogin made a choice like this, some here would be encouraged. Agree that Weah doesn't seem like a flight risk. Btw, Reyna has a Portuguese passport...
And on the topic of paranoid cap tying, the CONCACAF Nations League will also permanently cap tie a player.
Not worried and it wouldn’t really bother me. I don’t rate him very highly and don’t understand why Tab does
Any reason Keita isn't playing in Richmond's US Open Cup game right now. Would hate to know that a guy who can't get onto the field for a USL side beat out Sands and Araujo. Or is this just not Richmond's priority, in which case read the previous sentence with slightly less sass. Genuinely curious I don't really follow the Kicker's. Edit: TarHeels, that makes alot of sense. Cool thanks!
He’s probably in Poland already. I think it was in jest, although I know you take the LB position more seriously than others
Just want to point out Durkin is currently playing for DC United. While you are probably right, clearly there was an option to stay with your club till at least tomorrow it seems.
Akinola isn't in the 18 for TFC. I'm guessing DC told Tab they wanted Durkin up till this game since they inexplicably play 3 games (2 on the road) in 6 days.
