Odunze with a decent save after Canada played a ball that cut through the US defense to an open player in the box.
4-0 US FT The United States will face the winner of the Mexico - Haiti semifinal in the final of the 2019 CONCACAF U-17 Championship Thursday May 16th at 7:00 pm eastern.
Come on Big Soccer Youth Team Thread posters................ Let's work on our math skills please!!!!!
You remember his backheel in the buildup to Fuentes' shot off the post in the 2nd half? Or his backheel to Busio in the first half? He's got really soft feet too. He does that in the USL also.
Bunch of dudes in the comments talking up the Haiti team. Considering I have nothing better to do, time to watch this team get shellacked by Mexico.
I know, right? Freaking oodles of Haitian fans. They've been talking about Haiti winning the whole thing since the GS ended.
Really should have been more as they missed a lot of good opportunities. Attempted to move the ball quickly on the counter or in possession. Not always pretty, but when it was effective, it was really effective. Worth the risk, especially in those conditions where long balls weren't working well. And got some key interceptions when Canada were behind so gambling and Pepi pounced ruthlessly on those. Obviously great long fk to steal one they wouldn't have had otherwise. Leyva, Reyna, and Busio all went 90. Hope they're ready for the finale. Leyva especially looked burned out. Half step behind today and laboring. Pepi needs to be maintained, with AOC, Saldana, and Scally coming back into the squad. Maybe keep Kayo in the lineup if healthy. As bad of a passer as he is, his athleticism could be a problem for Mexico, and he can do some running to compensate for Leyva. Possibly a good game to utilize Leyva at the 10. Or start him on the bench with Busio getting the nod unless things go awry.
Can anyone point to why Busio was so much better in the 2nd half? Was it just the fact that the game opened up after Canada brought on attackers and tried to press?
I think so. They tried to play through the U.S. after going down, which was not their forte. They struggled stringing together passes all game. Made a lot of mistakes. Busio pounced on the loose balls and opportunities. The one assist was an excellent pick out into Pepi's path. The other one he just intercepted and it caromed to him fortuitously.
I also meant that he combined with Reyna a couple of times in give-and-goes in the last 20 minutes. AOC almost had a goal 2 times, one of them coming from our left 30 seconds after coming on. Occam's Razor probably applies here though!
I love how they're already looking past Mexico and saying the US has to fear them for the final match.
It wasn't perfect in the first half, but the ideas are there - this combination between @gbusio13 -> @Gioreyna10 -> Pepi was very good. pic.twitter.com/raIwRAH82X— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) May 14, 2019 The combination through the center with Bryang Kayo running the show was just a hair from coming off clean pic.twitter.com/zfrMkWP1x0— J.R. Same thing as the quarterfinal win. USA just trounces the opposition in the second half with silky passing movements. This 11-pass sequence (probably) should've ended in the back of the net. This team is playing the best soccer I've seen from a @USYNT #usmnt #CU17 pic.twitter.com/4w74iYECGN— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) May 14, 2019 Goal USA! It's Busio to Pepi again. Yea they were talking about how at this level they dominate, and how people don’t realize how strong their academy’s are. A couple thought Haiti already beat Mexico.
