We have too many players still taking the extra touch in and around the box instead of being ready for the one-time shot. Aaronson was decent again today, but made the aforementioned mistake twice. Didn't do nearly as well as he could with 2 scoring opportunities.

That's the next step, and what Curtin and Berhalter should try and get through to him. Growing up, when they were watching Pulisic with Dortmund (makes us feel old), they should have taken cues in this regard from Reus instead. He's ready to pounce on scoring opportunities before he receives the ball.

The initial Gold Cup camp roster is usually big. Arena called in 40 back in 2017.

Managers tend to call in some youngsters for a look at the future. Michael Bradley’s first cap was for an ‘06 WC tune up match.

Aaronson I think was just caught up in a numbers game, but I’d rather have him than Servania.

Sands and Araujo are a who the hell knows and definitely felt like Twellman was calling Tab out on the telecast today. However, if Araujo sneaks onto the GC roster, we know why he’s not going to Poland.

If you don't mind me asking, is this something you've been told could be happening or is it just your general thoughts/speculation?

Looks simple to me. GB and Tab isn't the same person. Tab values contributions at qualifiers, GB doesn't care about that. If GB was picking U-20 roster it would be different team. Better or worse but different.

Lewis gets his first start for Colorado. '02 Anderson is starting at left back apparently.

Eric Calvillo gets his first start of 2019 for San Jose, alongside Jackson Yueill, with Siad Haji on the bench. Dejuan Jones (and Tajon Buchanan) on the bench for the Revs.

I think the pre GC camp is a way for Berhalter to continue to monitor the younger edges of the player pool and perhaps look at some European fringe guys. He’s only has 1 international-date camp so I think he’ll take some time to look deeper into the pool

Araujo got cut from a really good U-20 but is only 17. He U-20 cycle is 2021. He remains a top prospect

Aaronson was victim of just emerging late. But he’s also 18 too

Tab has always said some of the players cut will go on to have great careers at both the club & USMNT level.

Also, for Olympic qualifying, the roster will be more domestic-based. So the door is wide open for Araujo & Aaronson there.

Siad Haji made his MLS debut and looked good.

I thought Josh Perez might have gotten his first minutes of 2019 but it looks like that was his third substitute appearance for LAFC...

Jonathan Lewis out in the 66th minute...

Saucedo has had a good season, when allowed to actually play. Tricky in the final 3rd, tidy, and handling defensive duties. He really should be starting over Baird. Underrated from a youth nt standpoint too. Needs a serious look with the u-23 team, especially considering how weak the wing depth is.

I thought Lewis was pretty good in his debut. Still hesitates in press, and somewhat of a naive route runner. But he can get in behind, is savvy in interplays, and is an accurate passer. Created one of Colorado's 2 goals. You can tell the service is going to be tough. Colorado should really be playing him as one of two fw's w/ Kamara given how much they'll have to counter.

Sebastian Anderson isn't close to ready. Colorado is throwing him to the wolves. Tentative passing and getting shredded defensively. Can't be healthy for his confidence.

Glad has really regressed since the beginning of his MLS career. Loses focus, and was never that talented to overcome it. Competitiveness was probably his best attribute.

    Matt Doyle on Frankie Amaya:

    3) No. 1 overall SuperDraft pick Frankie Amaya looked the part in his second straight start. He doesn't appear to be a game-breaker at this point, but he's unafraid to get on the ball in tough spots (and doesn't turn it over when he does), and he affects the game defensively beyond what could/should be expected of an 18-year-old No. 10. Cincy fans should have an extra liter today on Amaya's behalf, especially since he's so far from being able to have one himself.

I don't know if somebody answered this question, but Luchi was already in prep mode for losing Cerrillo (and Servania ) to the U20 World Cup. Nothing really to see here. Pomykal was still not in full first team training all week. I was hoping he'd be on the bench for this one, but alas.

Ferreira will be fine in terms of playing time. Mostly because Badji is terrible. I'm sure there will be games when Cobra or Badji start, but Ferreira will get his playing time. By the way...…………...DP Christian Colman is back in training. Remember him? :) So, that's additional competition. They're paying Colman a ton!

Mosquera came off with what looks like a serious injury. Already speculation that he's going to be out for the rest of the season. He left the stadium in an ambulance. So what does that mean? That means Thomas Roberts best be ready to go over the next month while Pomykal is away!!! Aranguiz will start (and he had a pretty good game yesterday), but Roberts has got to be the man off the bench. There is nobody else. They are one more injury or suspension away from needing Sealy on the bench.

Not enough has been made about Ferreira's start to the season. There should be absolutely no reason he's not starting. Cerrillo and Pomykal get all the attention, but Ferreira has 4G, 2A in 640 minutes. Thats incredibly good. If he can keep that up, he won't be playing in MLS for long.

It’s almost more exciting that he’s doing it under the radar and with mostly unspectacular goals. I’m not saying they’re easy goals, but he sure makes them look easy.

His style of play reminds me of Josef Martinez.

    I watched this one yesterday.

He does have a talent defensively nabbing the ball from the other team on the ball which he did 3x.

He also seems incredibly comfortable on the ball. Probably my favorite player to watch this weekend.

It was surprising to see him subbed when he was. The only drawback is that he could be more direct in some situations, but that’s just getting more comfortable.

I would say he’s earned another start if Saief is still hurt.

Ferreira has started 7 of 11 matches and subbed in 3 others. What exactly is the complaint here?

No adult in the prime of their career should start all 34+ matches in a year, let alone an 18 y/o. Jesus’s minutes have been perfectly fine.

I was one of those people who criticized (and very much) Amaya at the beginning of the year, but I must say that I was really surprised. Amaya noticeably improved, although I still think that he is not a great prospect. Well for him if he keeps getting minutes this season.

I didn’t know anything about him before he started playing for Cincinatti.

What about his game prevents him from being a great prospect?

Like many of our kids, the final 1/3.

At the same age I see a lot of Luis Gil in Amaya. Hopefully, Frankie evolves better as he gets older.

Why do you think it was a complaint? If they were resting him, then thats the explanation.

FC Dallas played what amounts to a first choice lineup yesterday, and Ferreira didn't start. It could be that he was the one player they chose to rest with a crowded schedule, but its more likely that he lost his spot after two games without scoring or assisting. A player with his production so far this season usually wouldn't lose a starting spot so quickly. It's likely that it was because he's a young player in what amounts to his first season getting regular minutes. I don't think he should be on that type of leash where a few games without producing and he heads to the bench. Obviously he doesn't need to play every minute this season. That was never the contention here.

What is his position? He doesn't have the attacking ability of an attacking mid, and probably is a little slight for a #8. He's a tweener. Aaronson looks like the same type of tweener, IMO.

Not every young player that gets time in MLS is going to be a real NT prospect. Colorado is playing Sebastian Anderson regularly in recent weeks, and he can't even get into the U-17 NT.

Its good that we are now producing some players that are not viable NT candidates. A few years ago, any player who got regular playing time instantly was considered a very good NT candidate. Now its more based on merit rather than simply getting pro minutes.

His game looks good now, although have to keep in mind that he has only played four games (of which he played well 2), but anyone who has seen his performance at UCLA or U20 MNT knew that he was not a great prospect.
I think his biggest flaw is that he is not a player who stands out too much in his position as maybe other players like Mendez, Aaronson or Cappis do.
I think he can become a very regular MLS player but he will not be a great player outside of the United States. Although it is only my opinion, who knows. Maybe he will become an outstanding player like Roldan in the future.

    So Cal
While it won't affect FCD games directly (at least not in short run), It still matters for FCD because if they send a tired player to the U20 WC they have a better chance of getting an injured player returning from the WC.

Hollingshead started as a winger. You can’t possibly be that stupid to think that was Dallas’s first choice lineup seriously?

You can nitpick a word in my post if you want, but these players were all in the lineup, Gonzalez, Cannon, Hedges, Ziegler, Gruezo, Hollingshead, Mosquera, Aranguiz, Acosta

The first six are definite starters. The latter three includes at least 1 starter, maybe 2 or 3.

They started very close to their best lineup. They might've rested a player or two. Did they rest Ferreira? Maybe so. More likely, they weren't resting him. Most of their starters weren't resting.
