Don’t know exactly what happened, but S’land fans not happy with Gooch (on edit: he apparently blew a last-gasp scoring chance) https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/peterborough-v-sunderland.1470779/page-79
Guaranteed a playoff spot, but Sunderland are 4 points off the automatic promotion spot with a game in hand and 3 to play, so I don't think they'll be throwing the towel in just yet. They play Portsmouth this weekend, and can leapfrog them to 3rd with a W, then close with #12 Fleetwood (not a lot to play for) and #19 Southen (may be fighting for survival).
Hasn't really played well the last two months. Missed a bit of time with minor injuires, might be adjusting to life with a baby in the house, but something isn't right. Effort is still there, but the production hasn't been. Really struggled today. Would love to see him find his game again.
On the bench: Your #SAFC starting XI, brought to you by @aphrodite1994...▫️ One change: Flanagan in for Dunne.#FIREUPOURCITY pic.twitter.com/22GwiYAPIZ— Sunderland AFC (@SunderlandAFC) April 27, 2019
and effectively playoff bound........Sunderland-esque choke job. Lets see if they make anything of it.
Starts: Tonight's starting XI, brought to you by @aphrodite1994...Three changes: @LyndenGooch, @WillGrigg and Chris Maguire in. @Charliewyke1, Aiden McGeady and @GHoneyman10 out.#SAFC #HawayTheLads pic.twitter.com/9j1CxWf6Cs— Sunderland AFC (@SunderlandAFC) April 30, 2019
That's a strangely named sponsor. I would have expected them to be a women's wear store, at least, if not a lingerie store.
my cousin's family has a big stake in plymouth argyle. need an argyle win and sunderland win/tie to guarantee their safety. have never wanted a sunderland result more...
Gooch had an ok pass or two in the first half. Sunderland doesn’t appear to care all that much about this game.
He’s not too popular with the always reasonable Sunderland fans https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threa...where-near-the-squad-in-the-playoffs.1472144/
56' #SUFC 1-0 #SAFCDouble change for the Lads - @LukeONien and @ksterling_98 are on for @LyndenGooch and @WillGrigg. Come on Sunderland! pic.twitter.com/f6jYrjPgz5— Sunderland AFC (@SunderlandAFC) May 4, 2019
he didn't do much can can't really complain about his sub tbh. sunerland not looking very threatening right now and their recent form suggests they'll bow out of the playoffs pretty quickly
Late addition starter to League One playoff starting lineup: 🔂 #SAFC have made a late change to tonight’s starting XI, with @LyndenGooch replacing Aiden McGeady, who drops out of the squad. @Denver_Hume is now on the bench.#EFLPlayOffs pic.twitter.com/ypfIMyUSt5— Sunderland AFC (@SunderlandAFC) May 11, 2019 0-0 on ESPN+ now. (make that 1-0 Sunderland).
Sacrificed in the 70th when SAFC gets a red card. 69' #SAFC 1-0 #POMPEYJust as the Lads were on top and pushing for a second they've been caught on the break. Ozturk has been dismissed for a foul on Evans. Dunne has come on in replace of @LyndenGooch as a result.Plenty still to do. Come on Sunderland! pic.twitter.com/RsvSAP2o8i— Sunderland AFC (@SunderlandAFC) May 11, 2019
He stepped up on the big occasion. Good to see. As the cliche has it "form is temporary, class is permanent."
On the bench for the second leg of the League One promotion semifinal at Portsmouth. 10 minutes in, already testy. 1-0 Sunderland on aggregate, 0-0 today.
If these are really the 4th and 5th-best this league has to offer, then WOOF. This shit barely resembles soccer - much closer to Greco-Roman wrestling. Or Roman gladiatorial combat, if you prefer. Anyway, Gooch was lively. Often used as an outlet once he came on, held the ball well, dribbled well. He didn't create much, but given that this tie finished 1-0 over 180 minutes (and today, there were 17 shot attempts, combined, only 5 of which ended up on target), no one else really did either. Sunderland will play the winner of Doncaster Rovers/Charlton Athletic (their second leg is tomorrow) in a Wembley final on May 26.
