Probably by attending the Village Board meeting. https://www.bridgeview-il.gov/assets/1/7/2019.05.07.pdf
Amazing what happens when you pay attention to what's going on in your local government (or you have no life; I speak from experience).
From what I recall seeing of the lease, $60.5 seems to be relatively cheap. I'm glad to have the team back in the city, and although I've loved the team 97 and have an attachment to them as is, I'm fine with the rumored rebrand if that's part of the move.
I personally estimated they wouldn't be able to get out of it for $90 million, given its ironclad nature and length. So $60 mil plus some change seems to be some good business. They couldn't sustain 6k crowds (midweek notwithstanding) over the long term.
I still remember the wide eyed optimism when this stadium was built. Many predicted that it would become the new cathedral of soccer in the United states. Sad to see it end this way.
That's a big scoop for such a small publication. Now a days they obviously had someone on the inside leak it to them.
I'm getting page not found when I click on the original link...and is the title slightly misleading? I don't see any story on the team website about them officially buying out of Bridgeview.
It's a done deal they seem to have broke the link it was working yesterday https://abc7chicago.com/sports/report-chicago-fire-to-pay-$60m-to-leave-bridgeview-stadium/5291178/
They changed it up slightly, and probably changed the link. EXCLUSIVE: Fire to pay Bridgeview $60.5 million for rights to play elsewhere
It probably is closer to $90 million when all is done. The updated article indicates the MLS team will pay $5 million for the next 5 years to rent the Bridgeview facilities for training. However, reading the sentence again, I don't know if it meant to say "$5M per year for 5 years" or "A total of $5 million to use it for 5 years". I think it is the latter.
It's the local newspaper that serves that section of the Chicago suburbs. They don't need a leak to know what's on the agenda for a town council meeting.
Plenty of people on here. It was proclaimed to be the next generation of SSS, making places like the stadium now know as Dignity Health Park to be obsolete...
I'm sure you could be more specific and perhaps point to a quote if many people were saying such things. It's basically a scaled-down clone of the stadium in Carson, designed by the same firm. It wasn't touted as a new-generation breakthrough in soccer stadiums.
Making LA Galaxy stadium "obsolete"...nobody said that. It is a lesser quality stadium than Dignity. People were definitely excited about it being the 3rd MLS SSS, but you are going overboard here. Just like no World Cup games will be played in MBS. I remember being very excited at the 3rd stadium. I felt that it meant this was a real trend and not just a couple outliers.
Thanks to the Fire for throwing a bone to MLS old-timers. I'm looking forward to seeing 50,000 empty seats at Fire games again, for the sake of nostalgia.
I was FIRED UP when Bridgeview was built. It actually seemed more soccer specific than Home Depot. It had more intimacy and character IMO. It wasn't part of a campus, it was part of the neighborhood. It was hoped the neighborhood would evolve. And the town was paying for it - unbelievable! I love watching games there - even with a dismal crowd. I'm sad it didn't work out but maybe the Fire can have a relationship with Bridgeview like Inter Miami is planning with Lockhart, and the Crew is planning with Mapfre. So much possibility, it seems, if the Hauptmans make way for truly ambitious owners. Maybe this is a view of the future for MLS. DSG and Frisco seem like they would make wonderful club HQ / academy / training centers.
well, a 6 000 attendance at last night's game vs the Rev says it all as to why the Fire have to move- will they build a new SSS closer to DT ?
I saw the other day that there was talk of building a new stadium south of downtown at the site of an old hospital that was bought to serve as a site for the ill-fated Olympics bid Chicago was attempting. I'm not sure that there was any facts to support it or whether it was rampant speculation, but it is the only mention of a stadium that I have seen.
The stadium has nothing to do with the 6,000 fans, This team would have the exact same attendance in the city with the current ownership and management situation. Banning your most passionate fans and putting a crap product on the field will do that. The current situation has nothing to do with Bridgeview. Andrew Hauptman and Nelson Rodriguez are to blame. Too many bridges have been burned by these two to see a quick fix to the Fire's problem.
