For the season, Miazga is tied for 4th with a 6.88 rating by WhoScored. Rating: Miazga 9 Won everything which was thrown at him in the air. Had a heart in mouth moment in the second half when he gave the ball away, allowing the Baggies to have a clear run on goal but he got back well to make a last-ditch tackle. Rating: Matt Miazga: 7 Another solid performance from the American at the heart of defence, kept HRK under wraps on his return to the Mad Stad. Looks to have formed a very solid partnership with Moore, hopefully he stays in the summer.

At Middlesbrough, he popped an inflatable balloon that was a giveaway to the fans, and got boos for it, but the away fans had his back. From what I've read, he's gained a reputation as being the goon/attitude guy for Reading. .@MattMiazga3 hates dinosaurs...Pass it on. 😂🤣 pic.twitter.com/dV95GXw3sZ— Reading FC (@ReadingFC) April 28, 2019 Boos from the home end for Matt Miazga who's just popped an inflatable crocodile.— The Tilehurst End (@TheTilehurstEnd) April 27, 2019 Royals fans respond with "USA, USA, USA" @DontTreadSoccer— The Tilehurst End (@TheTilehurstEnd) April 27, 2019 .@MattMiazga3 vs Middlesbrough: Pass Accuracy - 86%Clearances - 7Duels Won - 6Accurate Long Balls - 4Passes - 57#readingfc pic.twitter.com/ev6n3OoNgs— RFC Latest (@RFCLatest) April 28, 2019 Reading are staying up in no small part thanks to him. As of last month, according to a detailed graphic I saw: first among all Championship defenders in % aerial duels won; one of 18 Championship defenders to have 75%+ pass accuracy, and just one of two of those 18 to have close to 50% of passes played forward. A better loan should be coming, hopefully lower-table Bundesliga. Obviously Reading want him back but I doubt that will happen.
The last thing the English pyramid needs is to get even more vertical/skinny. Bring back the regionalized lower divisions of the Football League instead!
Has Chelsea been keeping progress? I'd imagine they'd wanna utilize him this summer for their tour of the US.
Rudiger and Luiz both grabbing body parts today. There may be room for a CM next year. So, yes, he may b feeding CP. My question is does Reading have resources to make a run for the prom? Nova, MM and a few more players could make it interesting.
Reading is a mess. The Chinese businessman that bought them in 2017 promised to spend €100m in the two years following the buy, but he hasn't, and is not in a good financial situation --the guy is into buying land for malls, and the business is not peaking, not even in China. In short, the fans are not happy at all: https://www.football.london/reading-fc/open-letter-dai-yongge-dai-15342720 https://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/...s/key-takeaways-reading-fcs-accounts-16148960 An increasingly fair assumption to make in the Championship is that a club will have overheads larger than revenues and a generous owner to underwrite losses. This was the case for Reading last year, as the club recorded a mammoth £28.7million operating loss – up from an £8million operating loss the season before. And to worsen matters, Reading realised only a meagre £1.4million profit on player sales – including Alex McCarthy, Andrija Novakovich, Tariqe Fosu, Jake Cooper, Oliver Norwood, Roy Beerens, Dominic Samuel and Ali Al-Habsi – down from £5.3million the year before.
More so than his time in the dutch league where he started to learn better footwork and passing, I think his getting benched in France makes him arrive at Reading and DIRECTLY impose himself and play more professionally. He was on a decent run of form in France but he was a yellow card magnet. He was not clean on the tackle or under control some of the time. The new manager arrived just as he was serving his yellow card accumulation suspension and from there never earned any trust. Granted the French league might be more athletic than the championship but it is not more competitive. Watching Chelsea today, Luis is aging and will not be able to compete in all games. Christiansen while very proficient, seems to always mess something up. SorrySarri may or may not give him a chance to play, sighting not technical enough to play possession football, but I am certain Miazga can not only play in the prems, but thrive.
They might not have a choice but to keep Miazga. Luiz, Rudiger, & Christeanson are the only natural CBs left on the roster. There's a 0% chance Cahill will come back, and that a hole for a club that can't buy anyone. Ethan Ampadu can also play CB, though a natural MF. But perhaps his ball skills might lead Sarri to play him at CB. Either way, Miazga might be in purgatory. Not good enough to get a lot of run, good enough that they want him for emergency depth
Pretty much what I predicted: the guy had already proved good enough in the Eredivisie, so even if he's not good enough for Ligue 1, it was expected for him to look ace in the Championship. I just hope he doesn't get stuck there. It'd be typical for a Yank.
Following Chelsea for long enough has taught me that they'll do pretty much everything in their power to not play a Loan Army player with the first team, so even if they go through an injury crisis I don't have much confidence he'll play more than 200 minutes all year. I'm hoping for a bottom-end EPL loan, but realistically I don't think it'll happen. However, I think he deserves a loan to a Bundesliga club, and I'll be disappointed with a Championship loan. It never seems like any actual development happens there.
but is Ligue 1 all that better than Championship? I'd reckon its quite similar in talent than say the PL and Ligue 1 where there is a gulf.
The idea that MM's Nantes loan proves he is "not good enough" for Ligue 1 is as silly as any out there. Meanwhile, Nantes has righted the sheet, with 5 straight W's.
It depends. If you only follow English football, then you're likely to think everybody else is League One quality, based on the way they are always self-promoting.
