It seems an easy match, but Barbados surprised with a 1-1 draw against Guatemala. Apparently they have a good squad. His best player is Thierry Gale, who is called the next great player of Barbados. He also played with the national team. What will be Wicky's decision, play with a team of substitutes or play with the best team and guarantee practically the first place?
Lineup I'd like to see. Las Cuevas-Gray-Alejandre-KHF De Vries-Saldana-Fuentes-Freeman Pepi-AOC Some squad rotation, some players auditioning for a starting position. The one position I would refuse to rotate at in this tournament is keeper. A team with such limited talent can not be sacrificing the one known quantity in the squad. Goalies also need less rotation. Hopefully we get up 3-4 goals early in one of these games, and Odunze can play half a game against Barbados or Guatemala. Cuevas at RB and Scally at RCB might be the best alignment for this team, but I don't see the issue with giving Scally a game off here. Let him have his CB audition in the next game. Gray should be starting. Give Alejandre another game here, and then he comes out for Scally the next game. KHF should be moved to LB permanently. I could understand giving him a game off here and Tolkin plays instead, but that could be done against Guatemala. Barbados is unlikely to provide much of a threat, so I think a Saldana-Fuentes CM should be sufficient for this game. De Vries and Freeman should at least come in for should rotation. I think Freeman should be auditioning for a bigger role. Try out the CF duo. See how it works.
I expect Barbados to be a absolute cream puff no matter who starts, and my only concern is that Coach Wicky might share my overconfidence.
Kidding, mostly. This is definitely the game to rotate, get as many players into the flow as possible. A highly unlikely loss would not even be that damaging, given the initial group results. Rotate, and tell the new guys in to rise and shine!
I am thinking about potential lineups for the Barbados game, and it seems like this pool is really coming together. I would think that Freeman and Gray are locks to start given their 0 minutes against Canada -- the question is where? Fuentes and AOC are likely to start as well. I like what De Vries showed even though a lot of it didn't come off. Saldana is a solid depth piece on a roster like this (and maybe it is more likely to say that he and Gray -- not Freeman and Gray -- are the two locks to start). Add these players to the bona fide studs in Las, Reyna, Busio, Kobe, Pepi, Scally, Leyva, and Bello, and I think we're starting to have something...
I think this is our best lineup for the tournament (screw trying to figure out rotation for Barbados....): Reyna -- Pepi (AOC) -- Freeman(De Vries) ------Busio--------Fuentes -----------Leyva Armour--Kobe--Gray--Scally Saldana, Kayo, or Yow as the third sub
Lineup is out on the CONCACAF website: https://www.concacaf.com/en/under-17s-men/game-detail/471336#tab_match=match-details Odunze; Tolkin, Kobe, Gray, Scally; Leyva, Saldana, Fuentes; Busio, Ocampo-Chavez, de Vries Players to not start in either of the first two matches: Cuevas, Freeman
Barbados with the best chance of the game so far. Poor marking on a corner going leads to a Barbados player getting the ball alone in front of goal. Luckily it sailed over the bar
The KHF free kick was pub league goalkeeping. Busio’s free kick was well placed. A very good keeper could’ve stopped it, but I don’t think many would.
I'm not sure I want us to be winning thanks to setpieces but it's nice to see us absolutely eating Barbados alive on them. 3-0 US 35 minutes in. Let's see if we can pour 8 on them like the senior team did
Busio and Fuentes fluff their lines. Busio has been mediocre to me, despite his goal. This should be our lineup, just put in Reyna for De Vries.
