Univision guys say this is a 4231 which is correct as far as I can tell. The two dmids seem ineffectual on both sides of the ball. They seem to be wondering where they are supposed to be and what they are supposed to do.
The team is a little top heavy with both Busio and Reyna maybe trying to do the same thing? I'd play Busio centrally. He's had first team minutes lately.
Watching this age group you’d have no clue they are in the same footballing program as the players born the year before and the year after them. It’s also even more hard to believe when you consider 2002 is the best WC result we’ve had in the modern era.
One of the first comments. I think it's scrolled too far to see now but you can probably see it when the replay is available.
Don't worry, I repped it. Pretty surprised that he's there, tbh. Though, mainly that's because I'm not really on social media at all, so it's weird for me to see these kids interacting on social media in real-time.
I'm gonna chalk this one up to a new coach just coming in. We look disorganized and lackadaisical. If Bradenton was good for something, it was good at getting the players to treat this tournament like the Super Bowl.
Canada had two plays of danger, but knew how to take advantage of defensive errors. We were very weak in the offensive.
The only person who can switch play is Reyna. The CB's are atrocious on the ball, Amour, Kayo, and Yow all look mediocre at best. Disappointing display thus far.
First half thoughts. Has anyone played well? Terrible defending by Armour on the first goal. Leyva gets beat on the second goal. Nice finishing from Canada. Pepi invisible, Busio invisible, Reyna and Scally trying to do too much. Most of the rest aren’t any good. Not so surprising. This age group definitely has this in them. Losing this game doesn’t end our chances, like it probably should, due to the new qualifying format. As long as results go as expected, we’d likely have to beat Costa Rica to qualify for the U-17 WC. Very possible we could do that, but a lot less likely than usual with this contingent.
If we're going to teach our players to possess the ball and improve ball skills which we have. We also have to teach them how to not give the ball away in midfield and how to handle countering teams. Our team isn't terrible just not knowing how to play a bunkering team. In these type games we always have to score first to pull them out. Now its like playing against a concrete wall. Tough to score against a defending team. They are all playing below their standards.
We have to have ideas in the middle third. Carleton did that for us in 2017. Best hope with this contingent is to move Busio there, especially with Stroud not in the team. Stroud, Busio + a destroyer would have been a good midfield with Reyna moving forward.
Get me Kobe at LB (sub Gray in for Armour) so both Busio and Reyna can combine through the middle. AOC on for another midfielder and go 442. Otherwise this is brutal.
