obviously this changes if o'hara & bryan are still injured, and if lavelle's ankle injury keeps her out (she was on crutches at sunday's game).

my assumptions are that o'hara and lavelle are fine, and bryan is not.

    gk: franch, naeher, harris

defense: dahlkemper, davidson, sauerbrunn, short, o'hara, dunn, sonnett

midfield: ertz, zerboni, mewis, lavelle, horan, long

forward: press, morgan, pugh, mcdonald, heath, lloyd, rapinoe

That looks to be what Ellis has chosen in the end. That defensive roster is what's worrying me. I'm not completely satisfied with it and I honestly don't know how we are going to get to the finals with the lack of chemistry and communication that crew apparently has. We've always had a good defense going into these World Cup tournaments and still lost. Imagine going in with this defense that's probably the most questionable and insecure in USWNT history.

just realized that some might initially have thought that this was the official 23.

nope. was just wondering who made your final list.

mods, please put a question mark after the thread title.

well, japan did win in 2011 with a higher avg. goals conceded than us...so we'd need circumstances to bend in our direction.

    I share your pessimism.

Below is a link to Caitlin Murray's prediction for the WWC roster. She lays it out....
19 locks - Kinda who you would expect based on the last 2 years of CAPS.
    Last 4 In -
    • Casey Short - needed positional reserve
    • Ali Krieger - insurance for Kelley
    • Z - Guts, Grit and all-around Bad Ass
    • Jessica McDonald - most like ATG
Which means that based on CAPS and experience - Long, Brian, Williams would be out.

We all remember (because the media reminded us every 7 minutes) that our 2015 WWC Champions were the most "veteran" team at that competition. 18-24 months ago, I fantasized we would have a 2019 roster containing 3-5 young, emerging players to go with the solid, proven vets. T. fits that bill and Mal's been on the Team so long I forget she still can't buy beer yet:D. Buuuuuuuut that's about it. Along those lines, I thought that HCJE would NOT repeat 2015 and have the luxury of giving the final couple spots to youngsters for the WC experience. But there isn't a Crystal on the bubble this cycle.

There are precious few hours left before the WWC Opening Match. Yesterday, I found myself in the depths of a 20 minute pacing session.

I looked back to see when the 2015 WWC roster for the US was announced and it was on April 14 or 55 days before competition started.

If Ellis announces the USWNT roster today it will be 42 days before the start of WC.

The WWC roster is supposed to be announced before the May 12 game. I'm not sure whether Ellis will call in bubble players for that game's camp and then make the announcement or whether it will only be the WWC roster players in that camp. Usually the roster announcement for camps are about a week out from the camp beginning.

it's more like the Big Soccer forum has lost it's appeal over this last decade(or at least on the women's soccer side). Shouldn't be cuz with it's own speciality headings & sub headings, it's easy to follow & way better than the more popular Equalizer & vaious Facebook clubs(where the posts go often off thread)

Hopefully things will pick up by the WC comes along, bu there two things I don't like about BS, the repping(which is to much favoritsm toawrds certain posters) & the sometimes heavy handed moderators with their banning powers over regular posters(who have just diapeared over the last few years)

if anybody reading this; do you know why popular poster WWC.Movement was banned?

My guess would be that BS and other forums -- or fora, if you prefer -- have declined because of the rise of Facebook, Twitter, etc, Being as old as dirt, I don't even know how to post on those sites -- so I'm here.

    Are there any youngsters here?

Yeah, it's not just the woso forum that has fallen off. It's all of BS, and I think that's mostly due to social media. Forums are just a little old school nowadays.

And what's the cutoff age to count as a youngster?

Not sure. As much as @Smallchief, I hate social media and I think there's nothing better than a well-ordered, well-archived and anonymous forum, so I am obviously a member of the club of the old dinosaurs: I am 45, but I have the doubt that this could be almost considered "a young age" here... :cautious:

I think sites like Reddit have taken away from sport-specific boards.
I don't use it, but perhaps Reddit is what y'all were referring too when talking about social media.

You're right, let's say old-school social media, then. I guess the difference is clear.

I would bet that Krieger is in for several reasons to include experience, multiple back line positions, leadership and security.

I'm 47 and in the same boat as you. I was never a big fan of Facebook and finally got tired of all the religion, politics and memes, which seems to be 99% of all posts.

A few years ago (around 2016 Olympics), I joined several different USWNT Facebook groups. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any that were worth a damn. They were all filled with the most uneducated fans and I ended up leaving them because there were never any intelligent discussions, debates, insights, analyses, etc. And for some reason, half the posts somehow turned into "Why isn't Ali Krieger starting?"

Having an intelligent discussion in those Facebook groups was a waste of time because of how uneducated 99% of the members were. Many of them didn't even watch the games, they just knew who their favorite players were and it's all they wanted to talk about.

I find myself posting more on Equalizer and Reddit than on here because of the format. The format here is a little outdated.

I do like that BS has a forum with headlines for each thread, but within the threads you can't have sub-threads like they do on Reddit and EQ. It makes it much more difficult to have multiple discussions within the thread because messages are sorted by their timestamp and not as a sub-message/response.

I know club form means jack sh*t to US Soccer, but if you watched Alex Morgan play for her club team, would you EVER pick her out as the starting national team forward? I can name many players that look a heck of a lot more dangerous right now. I also hate her attitude. She's always complaining and looking for fouls every time she's touched, rather than putting in work. I think it's concerning. Luckily Heath is playing the best soccer of her career and hopefully others will step up to score.
