The final score is: 2 - 2 GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G P.S. = Please don't post results of other soccer (including MLS) games and other sports' games in this thread until at least 24 hours after they've ended.
People watching the game on a stream are at least a minute behind the live game. Don't shut down the in-game thread so quickly.
Fair result. That's the best Seattle team I've ever seen. Momentum back-and-forth but the Quakes hung in and played them evenly. Very impressive.
I'm good with the score line. Team is still in adapting phase, slowly and surely. Glad that we went on the road and grabbed a point from Seattle. Would love to have more but it's gonna take time. Still need more talents for sure.
Seriously... 4 games into the season, who thought we would be coming away from Seattle with a draw and feeling like it was a loss? Set piece defense is probably a top priority in practice now... Go Quakes! Holy Shea!
Well except for the first 30 minutes, there was no shame in that Quakes performance. They held up well until the end. I didn’t really understand Almeyda’s substitutions though. It seemed like he had planned his subs ahead of the game and was going to use that plan regardless of the game situation.
I'm greedy so I'd have liked the 3 points but a draw in Seattle is way more than I'd have expected from this squad a month ago. Credit where credit is due.
Compared to last week, the officiating was very bad. Expected from this guy though who season in and season out can’t seem to get better. Giving up a two goal lead is pretty awful particularly since I think they were both mental lapses, and yet I’m satisfied with the result because some of the guys were just so tired. I thought Magnus becoming a traffic gone was going to do us in before he got subbed. If only the woodwork hadn’t been a little more helpful.
Yeah they let it get away but then it’s tough to play up there so one point is better than none. The two posts were tough luck but with the exception of that 97 second breakdown where the Sounders scored twice, the team seemed to be responding to Almeyda’s tactics. Paul Marie had a great game and Shea played above his head. Only thing I question is the late use of the subs. Erickson and Hoesen should have come out sooner....Wondo and Vako are clearly not effective as late game subs and they need more time.
Danny is the only hold up forward. We sure can use another one. Vako did ok. Wondo was rusty and did not have much time
Two guys (besides Shea) that impressed me today were Yueill & Espinoza. Espinoza (understandably) ran out of gas towards the end, but he was basically torching that side of the pitch especially in the second half. Yueill often showed calmness on the ball and even broke up some plays in the middle.
Or if Espinoza had converted 1 v 1 against Frei... there were definitely more chances than goals for both teams. I love the way Quakes have been attacking lately. People are getting to use their strengths and chemistry is building.
After the first 15 or so minutes where we played like the old Quakes (old = earlier this month) the team looked pretty impressive. I still say Lodeiro should have gotten a red, or at least a second yellow, for that foot stomp.
The ref obviously missed it because he acted like Marie was faking his pain. Between that, signaling play-on instead of a free kick at the edge of the box, and waiving off the cross-check on Lima that was more vigorous than the one Pavelski suffered last night, the ref did not cover himself in glory. That said, I've seen many worse performances from officials.
When I saw the replay of the stomp I wondered if that would be reviewed after the match... He at least deserves a fine.
Interesting tactical points by Seattle coach about how they tried to pull EQ players out of position: https://www.soundersfc.com/post/201...tzer-post-match-versus-san-jose?autoplay=true
I thought Espinoza started the season a little tentative, but, he has certainly gained confidence and come into his own the last 4 or 5 games. I am liking his play more and more.
Though I am not a big Eriksson fan, he does give his all and wants to win, however, I just think about how much better we could be with a real #10 like Lodeiro instead of him.
I’ve only seen the highlights and read the box score. So, no opinion really. Do we know why Tommy didn’t play? Is he hurt? Or were we just concerned about fixture congestion. And of course, I’m pleased that we tied. Way better than losing. Go Quakes!! - Mark
God help me, I'm getting suckered into optimism by this team and it's expensive coach. The very second I fully succumb to said optimism the team will crash harder than the Hindenburg leaving me totally gutted yet again. Pessimism don't fail me now!
Tommy was rested for fixture congestion and wasn’t even in the 18. Thought Marie did pretty well in his place.
