When Wolves got promoted, I was glad to see the classic, venerable Molineux come back into the rotation.

Nuno has had them playing well and they sit 10th, higher than most would’ve expected. He seems to foster a good karma at the club and in the changing room.

This is probably a more important match for us than them, as we try to get back into top 4, after having lost yesterday, wasting a golden opportunity to win at home and put distance between our 3 direct rivals who all dropped points.

Wolves seem to have little hope for Europe, sitting 18 pts off 5th place. So hopefully they’re already thinking of the beach. But maybe there’s some chance of them qualifying via 6th, like if Citeh win the FA Cup? I dunno about that stuff.

Also, crappy Brighton held them to a draw last time, so maybe that gives us a glimmer of hope? Or maybe we’ll have to resort to a little bit of ugliness like this? (Peter Simpson on Derek Dougan from back in my youth)

    18AUG73-Simpson-pulls-Dougan's-shirt.jpg

Back to the present... of the most recently injured, Ramsey (hammie) is out for most if not all of our run-in. And we missed him a lot yesterday. Xhaka (hip) also seems unlikely.

On the flip-side, I think Torreira (groin) should hopefully play as he was partly rested yesterday. And I hope one of Ozil/Iwobi can go, as they were bright spots yesterday. Also Sokratis I think is back from suspension... at least I pray so! Which leaves a tricky decision about whether to cross fingers and overuse Koscielny on short rest? Any backline without him is a scary proposition! I.e. Mustafi.

    CRUNCH TIME BOYS!!!

Nice look in the background at the old hand-operated out-of-town scoreboard in which used to list scores from the other matches from A-Z, am I right NorthBank???

BTW, I have been without TV (at least from DISH) for almost 2 weeks now, my venerable DISH model 311 SD receiver I have had for almost 15 YEARS won't pull up a signal, it stopped functioning properly when I tried to watch the news (on KING 5 News here in Seattle) back on the evening of Friday the 12th after working fine that morning watching The Today Show on NBC. It just keeps cycling through transponders at either 110 or 119 with no progress ever coming (reads 0 from 0-5 of 5 and does not move up), plus this match is on that bullshit Gold so I can't watch this match either. SHIT!!!

As it turned out I WAS RIGHT!!!

    https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/h8t6g/does_anyone_know_what_those_alphabets_on_the/

There were 26 boxes marked with a letter of the alphabet. Below each individual letter was a door that opened and had the facility for two cards to be inserted, one in the top half, and one in the bottom half. In the match programme on the back page would be the day’s football fixture and each game would have a letter of the Alphabet adjoining it. These letters would be matched to the letters on the scoreboard and at half time, when the doors of the boxes on the scoreboard were opened and the cards inserted, the top number would show the home team’s score and the bottom number would show the away team’s score. At full time, the process would be repeated and fans would know the results of most matches that were played that day.

We lost unexpectedly at home, I bet we will follow it up with an unexpected victory away.

    2-1 to the Arsenal!

NBC Gold should just become the shirt sponsor. This is obviously, a must win. Emery will probably play the Guen-Elnenny midfield again, because why not

Haha. Unless Torreira's groin is worse than appears, and he needs more rest before Valencia, then I want to see him tomorrow. Or alternatively Xhaka if he makes a quicker recovery. But no more Eldouzi or Geunenny please.

If Citeh win the FA Cup then won't 7th place get a Europa spot? If so I'd wager Wolves have that very much in play.

Yeah that's what I was wondering/dreading. I don't really understand UEL qualification so I looked up this:
    https://www.premierleague.com/european-qualification-explained

So if City win both EFL & FA Cups, is that why 5th-7th places lead to UEL? Whereas if some lower table clubs were to win both domestic cups, then only 5th place leads to UEL???

    1-4 = Champions League
    5 = Europa League

One spot each for the FA Cup and League Cup. If the winner of either cup finishes 1-5, the spot gets passed down through the league places.

    Sounds about right.

I'd guess that I'm quite a bit more optimistic about a lot of things compared to some commenters here: more optimistic about the season, the manager, the overall direction of the club. It's not so much that the club doesn't have any problems, I just think we're in a much better position to fix them than two years ago, or last year.

As things stand, our problems are almost all football problems. We have some players who aren't good enough for what we need, and other players who don't fit very well with what we're trying to do. For the most part, we've fixed the cultural, financial, organizational problems. Because we have football problems, we have football solutions, which for me at least is good news. Mustafi being crap is a problem, but the crappier he is, the easier the resolution to the problem.

In the aftermath of the United-Everton game, I'd much rather be us than them. Not just a matter finishing above them in the League, but beyond that as well.

As far as this game goes, I'm expecting us to win. I'd rather be at home for this, but when push comes to shove, that's not going to be the deciding factor. We're a better team than Wolves, we're getting Sokratis and Torreira back. We need to win and Wolves probably don't care that much.

I completely disagree with this characterization of today's match. Wolves have absolutely relished each and every home match this season vs. the top 6 and today is going to be an all out assault on what they will believe is a soft Arsenal team on the road.

This is their final home match vs. the top 6. Their fans will be raucous, their squad will be hungry, and if they score first, we can wave goodbye to the top 4.

He's pretty much answered our prayers for a strong lineup:

    Arsenal
    19 Leno
    15 Maitland-Niles
    5 Papastathopoulos
    6 Koscielny
    18 Monreal
    11 Torreira
    34 Xhaka
    7 Mkhitaryan
    10 Özil
    17 Iwobi
    9 Lacazette

    Substitutes
    1 Cech
    4 Elneny
    20 Mustafi
    29 Guendouzi
    31 Kolasinac
    49 Nketiah
    59 Willock

Obviously we won't know for sure till match time. We've some resilience this season. We've had some really bad performances and some really bad results, but we haven't let one bad game turn into a spiral. Fingers crossed.

We're dominating possession and getting good time in and around their box, and some dangerous passing... just no final product yet.

But then they counter and get a scary shot off just wide of the goal.

A goal from us in the next 10 mins would be very nice. Or two? :)

    COME ON!

Uh-oh the Rory Delap towel treatment, then a long throw and another near chance by Wolves. Ugh.

FVCK. A beautiful free kick and Wolves are 1-0 up.

Edit: it looked like a deflection at first glance.
