Half-time. 0-0. Wolfsburg are playing it smart, absorbing the pressure but then sending players forward on the counter. Neither team has had many clear cut chances.

Wow. Brooks give up a soft foul just outside the box. Paco hits the ball right down the middle, and the GK somehow misses it. 1-0 BVB in the 90 + 1.

And a Sancho to Pac counterattack makes it 2-0 BVB. Brooks not involved (playing striker). Game over.

3-1 win. Still hanging around those Europa League places. Hell of an improvement from recent seasons.

If I were a Wolfsburg fan, at this point I'd be asking for an upgrade on Brooks next season. Yes, the guy comes out playing and helps the attack nicely, but a CB is supposed to defend, to be positionally savvy.

If they miss the Europa League it's going to be not in small part due to JAB's bad days.

The bad news: Volkswagen is down 0-1 with 5 to go.

The good news: it wasn't JAB's fault.

Does Wolfsburg send Brooks up as a forward in the dying minutes if they need a goal? He seemed to be the most advanced player when that goal sequence started.

The guy is big enough to cover the distance in one step that requires other players two. So near the end, when the usual runners are tired, he becomes their final ace up the sleeve.

He is not ungood in the air either... it's an Evertonian strategy! Nice it worked today. Too bad I opted to work rather than watch. I made a bad choice!

Look a few posts above... they did this back in March (and his other clubs have done it as well).

He really is relatively graceful for a guy his size.

He lets the ball cross his whole body. I am still bugged at Zardes vs Ecudar where we hit it with his close foot and wiffed the ball.

Agree and much quicker than his doubters always claim. That was a smooth and aggressive stride. It's there when he wants to show it.

Natural talent versus an athlete trying to be a soccer player.

Is it fair to say he's what Gooch might have become (had it not been for that injury against Costa Rica)?
