Pomykal is gone after the U-20 WC. Hes ready for the next level and hes on the cusp of an MNT callup.....kid gets it done. Looks for the long ball or the over top, and has the tiki tap game going as well. Id love to see him in Germany, or even in France. Attacking talent needs to be challenged, RIGHT NOW
I havn't been paying attention too much. What is the consensus? Will FCD release him? If I was FCD, I don't think I would want to let him go. In addition, I suspect that his value probablyl wouldn't increase all that much over what it is now unless he has an absolutely amazing tourney and the US does far better than expected, (not out of the realm of possibilities I suppose) Agree that he is probably ready for the next level but don't believe it would hurt for him to wait til winter. Unless FCD gets an offer they truly can't afford to refuse, I would guess they wait. (This is especially true if FCD is still doing well with playoffs and/or supporter's shield still in the mix at that point).
Interesting. Timing could be an issue depending on how the application and documents are handled and when everything is submitted. Some countries accept applications in person, then notify petitioners of status changes via email. Others prefer the postal service/written communications. If the latter is the case for Pomykal, then what might be most important is waiting for him to get word that the Czech is in the ... never mind.
Pomykal has previously trained with Atletico Madrid, Hoffenheim, Hertha Berlin, Manchester United, Derby County, and Crewe Alexandra. Can obtain EU passport through grandparents. https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/clu...-prospects:-dallas-texans-open-doors_aid33042
U20 WC is a major showcase event. Scouts flock to it. If he goes and really stands out against the best globally in his age group his price tag will go up.
Luchi has said that all players will be released should the U20s want them. There really isn't much known about the potential for a transfer. We're all just speculating about this anyway. He's been at the club for quite a long time. So one suspects that if they want to cash in, then this upcoming January window (after the completion of this MLS season) is the right time for everybody involved. We're getting a bit ahead of ourselves.................... I actually think that Cannon is the player that needs to leave before Pomykal. If they get an offer for Cannon this summer, then they should sell. Hollingshead can play right back. Then they have the two youngsters also in Nelson and Reynolds.
I don't completely disagree. If he stands out, it will help him (and Dallas) but I believe scouts already know about him. They will be following him throughout the season and a good performance at the wc will be like a cherry on the top but wouldn't have as much effect as it would if he were more unknown. Also, of the two, I believe that his day to day performance in MLS will be more important than a performance in the WC.
Agree. I am not the expert on this of course, but he seems to be quite a bit less replaceable than Cannon at this point and getting a full season in shouldn't hurt his value...it should help if he continues to impress and improve throughout the year. FCD, at this point has to be thinking of playoffs and sellling Pomykal would be like quitting on that...I can't see FCD fans being happy with that.
I could see Paxton maybe being sold this summer, but loaned back to Dallas for the remainder of the MLS season. Plus, Roberts getting a whole season of minutes between Dallas and NTSC would better prepare Thomas to be ready to replace Paxton in 2020.
Maybe. I agree with you, but......................your suggestion is exactly what we were saying about Kellyn Acosta in the summer of 2017 Gold Cup. "We can't sell Kellyn now! We're a team with serious post-season aspirations!!!" Well, shortly after that his performance level started a nosedive that lasted half a year. Then he had health problems. Instead of selling him to Europe for millions, we traded him to Colorado for Dominic "effing" Badji. And of course FCD absolutely tanked anyway, finishing 7th in the West. Sometimes you gotta strike while value is the highest. If FCD gets an "offer they can't refuse" for Pomykal this summer...............then Jacori Hayes takes over starting duties. He's a capable MLS starter, and probably one on a playoff team. So the starting trio would be Acosta, Hayes and Grueso. You'd still have Cerrillo, Servania, and Roberts in the rotation. And they seem to be quite excited about some of the central midfielders they have on the USL team. If Pax is sold, then one of them advances up the ladder as well.
I think we are pretty much on the same page. It is like Branch Ricky used to say: it's better to trade to early than too late...(before my time but I read about him). It comes down to risk assessment. Obviously FCD want BOTH more money and a chance to go deep...possibly all the way in the playoffs. They have to decide which they want more and what plan of attack will balance the risk on each outcome the most favorably. If they have sufficient depth as you seem to feel (you know far more than I do about fcd) than that will certainly move the needle. Acosta is the perfect example of trading too late. We'll see what they do with Pomykal.
There's also the matter of when his contract ends. Somebody would know better than me. He signed in late 2016, so we're in the middle of his 3rd contract year. I don't know how many options or whatever they have on his contract after this season. Either way, after this season they're getting close to the "cash in or lose him for free" stage..................... FCD is presumably in the same situation with Reggie Cannon, who also signed in late 2016. There's also a secondary notion. FCD's Off-Budget roster (10 players) is full. They just have so many GenAds and homegrowns. Note they're full even after selling Chris Richards. [And by the way, Dante Sealy isn't one of those 10.] If they want to sign more young players to first team MLS deals from either the USL or DA teams, then slots need to be opened up.
GBS says Rolf Feltscher is out of the @LAGalaxy Friday’s game with a groin issue. Sounds doubtful for Wednesday in Minnesota. Julian Araujo will likely take his place. Giancarlo Gonzalez is still dealing with paperwork issues and may not be available either— Kevin Baxter 🇺🇦🏳️🌈 (@kbaxter11) April 17, 2019
I feel a bit spoiled this year with so much young US talent getting minutes with a lot of new faces in attacking positions. Last year I’d be excited to see a young HG get minutes and do okay to hopefully get more minutes. This year that doesn’t do the trick, I need to see a young HG get goals/assists or have an all around top notch performance (like Sands this last game).
this year kind of proving that young attackers have the ability to quickly make huge jumps up the learning curve if afforded opportunities
This isn’t a post saying that I think he should, but Shaft Brewer has MLS appearances and now a start and it would take an injury crisis for him to be considered for the U20 team. A few cycles back this would be good sign to make the U20 WC team. Did anyone besides me watch this game much? I only caught the second half and I didn’t really think he really stood out much. At the end of the game he did a lot of things wrong but you could tell he was exhausted. I guess I would say don’t put much stock in this appearance, I neither expect more appearance not expect no appearances. I think there’s something to say about Bob Bradley’s team being very fluid and full of depth, he certainly tries to rotate so there could be more. Shaft could have a good career as depth for Bob Bradley.
