Just confirming what others have already said. My daughters Card for US Club was approved and the old USYS Club didnt have to do anything (i.e. release etc.).
Heard Eclipse will be rostering only 18 players per team. Also was told that the 06's that came to ID camp were good enough for a solid team and more are expected for 06/05. Many 04 players showed up this weekend. Two parents said that JS was openly talking with parents - putting on the shine.
JS is very personable. He always has done a good job of engaging players and parents. Results have always been a knock on him.
I have to question how meaningful 2001 to 2003 "tryouts" will be. And for that matter, the 2005 and 2004s last weekend. The Eclipse coaches were all at FCU, so they know the FCU DA and MRL girls (what, 22 per age group?). I am sure they have their targets and those top kids (like the ones that have already openly committed) undoubtedly have been offered spots - no need to tryout. If Eclipse North has 70 commits already, the 05-01 tryouts might be window dressing or to fill out spots 14-18 on each team. How many 04 and 05s at tryouts were from FCUDA? And with a new ECNL badge on the North Shore, why would anyone be surprised the the 06s in attendance were "solid." This age group is not in DA yet, so not as well known and with lesser ties to clubs. In a few weeks the same group tries out for DA.
Outside the rumor mentioned here last week of the current FCU/Stevenson coach coming over, were there any other sightings on Saturday? Any mention of who is going to coach all these committed players, or do parents just not care?
FCUDA had ID Sessions on March 3rd and 10th for 05 and 06 Girls, then selected their teams of 16 ea. from that within a week.
That is what FCU does every year, they make sure there is enough $$ in and then they continue adding players and recruiting until they have many more. So many of their teams have more than 18 players on and they have multiple equally balanced teams at each age group to get as many signed up as possible.
I assume so since my 06 girl is somewhere on the waitlist from the sessions and we haven't been called. I don't know how long FCUDA gave those selected to accept.
Update from an FCU boys parent. FCU has informed all their Pre Academy boys players they have 48 hours to register for next year and pay a deposit or risk losing their place in the so called Academy Program (whatever that means)
what if... What if a club actually had a positive business model, was committed to developing players from within, had clear and measurable expectations from coaches, and communicated to parents in a transparent way, including general criteria for player eval and advancement. Maybe they wouldn't have to hold families hostage. Only thing I've figured out to get my kid treated fairly(once a year), is to commit to the Fall training. Hope out club doesnt pull this, I would surely end up doing something that would get my kid blacklisted!
The DA and ECNL clubs have turned this all around on parents who know nothing about youth soccer. They have managed to completely turn around the provider/consumer relationship and internally turn the player on themselves. Here are some things I have heard... 2005 Player (How are things going?) "She the top keeper on the team now so she's really close to getting on DA!" No - your kid is a chubby, racist little shit who is only here for social reasons. She does not try at all and laughs when rollers pass her by. Stop pretending that your kid has the goods when she's not getting past the Freshman team next season when she goes to high school. "Oh we're staying with club though..." What - for the vanity of it? 2006 Player (Does your daughter want to do a 3v3 winter tourney?) "No she said that she is affraid that if she is caught playing outside the club that she won't make DA next year." 2005 Player (How is the season going?) "[XXXX] is getting better - we're really hoping she gets on the DA team next year! From what I hear the parents at Eclipse are even more delusional. But at least they encourage outside play! I should sell DA and ECNL patches at tourneys - I bet I would make a fortune!
I thought that did not work on the girls side. Or maybe it did? What the risk with boys? Going to Sockers? or Fire?
FCU sent DA invites out last month. I guess many accepted spots but no one has paid or fully commited. From what I am being told, there is a lot of wait and see.
Didn’t work as people are getting wise to their BS. Every year we hear the same lies, the product is getting worse and the cost is going up.
Is that for boys? For girls? How has FCUDA - girls- fared against ECNL north brook? Too early to say?
For girls, I believe most are in the uncommitted column, opting to wait and see what others do. Many times girls move in groups. Boys tend to be more solo in changing clubs. I think things pick up after an early May Eclipse North tryout (it appear to be their last?). FCU DA's seem to rely on kids being "invited to join a training session for a tryout in place of a traditional combine" which is better but certainly less efficient (kid may have HS games, etc.) This process goes through the end of the season. Looks like FCU's traditional tryouts are for their other, non DA teams, but I would image DA coach attending those too.
Hello. New to this forum. Anyone heard anything about 2007 girls teams in the north shore? Interested in info on FCU, Eclipse, FC-1, CFJ North Shore, but will gladly take any info out there.
http://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/media-center/news/di-council-adopts-rules-curb-early-recruiting Changing topics as an FYI...I had heard this was coming. Recruiting rule changes effective May 1 that will impact boys and girls soccer -- but mostly girls bc there is very little early recruiting on the boys side. This will impact freshman and younger. And for the better IMO.
Does anyone know what the contact rules are for soccer now, before the change? These are probably for the good, but when you consider per Top-drawer, on girls side, only 55 Fresh. and 250 soph have committed, I am not sure its the big of a deal. I am sure PSU, Duke, Stanford, etc. were against it, with the 300+ other schools for it. If no contact/visit until after soph. year (today's U16s and U17s), then I think this gives parents a reason to avoid ENCL and DA for U13, U14 and maybe U15.
Early recruiting is bad. Kids change there mind a lot. Just read that there are 750 women soccer players in the NCAA transfer portal. In case you’re wondering, there are over 740 women’s soccer players on the NCAA Transfer Portal right now! Seems like a lot. One theory is this is a product of players committing as freshmen/sophomores. This is unhealthy for universities, families and student athletes alike.— Todd Bramble (@toddbramble) April 19, 2019
I believe right now colleges can't contact a player until 9/1 going into Junior year. However, there is nothing that prevents a player from reaching out to a college coach. Basically a college coach can receive a call but cannot place one. Going forward they cannot receive a call from the player or his/her family member. This is one big change. The other is no scholarship offer can be made until June 15 following sophomore year. So today a college coach will contact a club coach and say "please have your player call me, we are interested in her." This starts as early as 8th grade. But I don't think it will change the attraction of DA or ECNL. The scouting will still take place so that following sophomore year the colleges will know who to go after. And the DA and ECNL showcases will continue to be heavily attended. And colleges can signal interest through a club coach.
The new rules won't slow down the UNCs and FSUs of the world from chasing the twelve year old unicorns, but it might help lessen the pressure on coaches to chase good but not great 13 - 15 year old girls. It would be really interesting to see a tally of the reasons why the are so many women in the transfer portal. How many are transferring for soccer related reasons, (eg. mismatch in ability of player vs. team for better or worse), as opposed to social and academic reasons (eg. this school sucks, they don't have any majors I'm interested in).
