He scored as many goals today as he did the entire last Hex. But there was another American on that field today who scored two goals. I understand how impressive Jozy is and his career has seen no low points. It takes a real striker's striker to double Tim Howard's EPL goal total and thank God we have been blessed with Jozy. However, one man stepped into the spotlight and did the unreal. A multi goal game against a multi Lion team. Take a bow, Will Bruin, and make sure US Soccer is posting your highlights. The next twenty caps should belong to Bruin, no questions asked. Yes, I thought this out.
The good news for Altidore is that he has proven in his career that he can lead the line in 1-striker formations at a level above MLS, something which none of his competitors have done. Until Sargent or Weah break out, he'll continue to be in the picture and possibly/probably start.
Why are you talking only about what happened in 2017? Why not the 2018 CCL or, the current MLS season? Do you honestly think that the Hex teams will feature better players than Tigres, America and Chivas? https://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2018-03-07-toronto-fc-vs-tigres-uanl/recap CB Mexico WC starter https://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2018-04-03-toronto-fc-vs-club-america/recap CB One WC starter for Mexico and a Paraguayan with 20 caps https://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2018-04-25-cd-guadalajara-vs-toronto-fc/recap both CBs double digit caps with Mexico
When did he prove this? I agree he should be in the picture but not an automatic call up and certainly not a starter.
The Netherlands, of course, as Altidore certainly wasn't starting in a 4-4-2 with AZ. If "automatic callup" refers to the Top 5 or 6 players in the pool, then I agree with you. Those spots probably go to Pulisic, Adams, Steffen, McKennie, Brooks, and Yedlin right now. I think Altidore clearly goes in the next group after that. And Zardes appears to be the top competitor so far for Altidore. Although immediate opportunities for Sargent seem to be dwindling, maybe Celtic will throw some major minutes Weah's way in the final month of the campaign.
Zardes, Sapong, Morris, Nova, Altidore. That's solid quality for the GC. Weah and Sargent can play in the U20 World Cup.
Same way you explain his international play. He's good to a certain level then useless against better competition. At his age, I doubt he will improve.
Pulisic playing underneath him would provide a sliver of hope. I actually want to see Altidore start because of his free kick abilities, but I want to see him at right forward.
I explain his international play as he is our third leading scorer of all time and tops in qualifying. Jozy truthers then say he only scored 2 times in the 17 hex. I point out that those goals were against the best D in the hex and in a must win game. Jozy truthers then mumble something about Mexico and "top teams." I point out that he scored against the best club teams in Mexico last year in club play and your reply is to ignore the evidence that contradicts your point. I have nothing further to say to you since you are not offering any thoughtful response.
I said it during the Hex, the USMNT should have lined up like TFC to get the best out of Jozy, in that Pulisic could have played a second forward like Giovinco, with room to do whatever he wanted while Jozy played the 9.
Jozy isn't an amazing striker, but an on-form Jozy can be an asset to the team. No, he's not great against the best teams, but he's a striker that stands out in MLS and can beat on CONCACAF teams consistently, which is a level of striker that we have precious few of. When Sargent, Soto, and the rest break through, he'll be a great bench/veteran option going into the WC. It just so happens that, right now, he's probably a starter on this team until then. He's a starter now, substitute later.
We just see different things in Jozy. Our third leading scorer has pummeled minnows and received an inexplicable amount of caps. We should look for better. You believe two goals in the Hex should be applauded for a striker. I see it differently. You see a guy who scored against Mexican club teams. I see a guy who loafed during the Hex especially in Couva. You see a guy who lit up Holland. I see a guy who had two miserable stints surrounded by one good one in Europe. It's a USMNT forum and I don't see what he does going forward that younger players can't do. Linus and his blanket are cute. Jozy taking a spot at this point is not.
