Looks like Sittard committed another early red card offense. So at that point it's Novakovich helping Fortuna hold-up, hang on, and trying to take advantage of the occasional chance on the break. Apparently things were going well for Sittard up until that point. They do this way too much.

    Here are the game highlights:

What's the use of loaning such imbecils that cost you dire points instead of contributing to gain them.

It'd be great if all leagues did this kinda thing.

Started today at Zwolle, but Sittard are down 5-0 because once again one of their players picked up a red card early in the match. That's 3 straight games. Actually has been 7 of their last 15 matches it's happened. Totally unprofessional, and cramps a striker's style.

FWIW, per WS he is the highest rated player on the team, listed way forward of a block of 9 (never seen that). Gives a visual of how much of an island he's playing on.

Yikes! Wow. That’s not a feat you want to have. With their discipline record maybe they should be know as Fortuna Shittard.

Some of those reds have been very soft, though.

Dutch refs are a bit stricter than the norm, historically.

  12. Fortuna Sittard – VVV-Venlo (zaterdag, 20.45 uur)

    .

    Fortuna Sittard - VVV-Venlo (Saturday, 8.45 p.m.)
Fortuna Sittard lost no less than fifteen of the 22 meetings with VVV-Venlo and will at least hope that it will end the match with eleven men at home against the Venlo players. Fortuna always took a red card in the last three games and can become the second team ever with four red cards in a row after RKC Waalwijk in 2009.

Nova has started today in a pretty big battle against VVV to stay comfortable from relegation.

And he opened up the scoring with some smart movement to follow a shot off a nice turn from his teammate which resulted in a rebound. Beat the keeper to it, and clipped it passed him in the opposite direction. Not the prettiest finish, but a savvy one. 1-0 Sittard in the 12th.

do players get assists for those type of goals? when it's rebounded or would the "assist" be credited it to the keeper or the post?

1-1 final, 5 points clear of De Graafschap, who are going to get smacked at PSV tomorrow.

Finished 1-1. VVV got a pretty lucky deflection goal shortly after Sittard thought they just about put the game away with a Lamprou goal on the break (Novakovich involved w/ hold-up and secondary assist), but didn't show the discipline to delay his run just a bit.

That said, Sittard really didn't deserve to win. They lost midfield against a sub-par Eredivisie side, and at home to boot. Were defending pretty deep after while and Novakovich was largely on an island. That Balic guy looks like he sucks. Hard to believe he played for Udinese. Slow-footed and poor decision-making.

Nova likely to finish the season with about a dozen goals, which is a good number for the striker in a weak team, but unlikely to get him any interest from the big clubs.

Well, now he's got to score 1 in 4 to get to 10. Doable, IMO.

Depends on what you mean by big clubs. I don't think that was ever the expectation.

It was always highly likely he'd just return to Reading, integrate there finally, and if he does well, either move up directly through promotion or a sale to the EPL or one of the bigger leagues. We're talking a mid-table or lower team.

No, I don't think he's playing for Arsenal in the future. But few Americans could, outside of at least this new era of improved domestic development we may be in.

    Big Dutch clubs,

I can see a future for him with Reading. I consider the Championship a step down from the Eredivisie though. The Championship is about MLS quality, top 5-6 clubs excepted --but we rarely have anyone in its top 5-6 clubs.

He can play for Feyenoord. He gave them fits earlier in the season and will get another shot before it closes out. Ajax and PSV is too tall of an ask, even for a lanky fella like himself.
