My background is on the men's side where no one talks about salary as primary income, they talk about camp. Rice is a safe, beautiful campus in a soccer mad, huge metropolitan area. LSU is, well, somewhere in Louisiana. My guess is the income difference is possibly significant, but not in the direction you are thinking (does Louisiana have the soccer population base to even have a camp).

The better question is how did the LSU coach get the Rice job? Those two schools are polar opposites. It's like Georgetown hiring the Mississippi State coach.

Hiring a coach from a big name school like LSU is always a draw. I think what people said about Brian being on the hot seat was correct but that just shows how demanding the administrations (and deluded) at schools like LSU are. Can’t blame the guy for wanting a little stability.

A losing program with no funding won’t be able to hire a respectable coach so this hire makes sense. Asheville will continue where they are at.

Colby Hale at Arkansas has been contacted by LSU based on word from a current SEC assistant. Can’t imagine an in-conference move would be popular with the Arkansas administration but may give Hale leverage for a better contract.

LSU cannot get their basketball situation (coaching) right. Taking forever. Getting a soccer coach is on the agenda for June/July.

LSU needs to sack their basketball coach as he was caught on tape discussing payoffs to secure a high-school prospect. Legal investigations take time...

A lot of those guys have clauses in their contracts (like transfers) where they can't go inter conference now. That would be a dream hire for them but can't see it being realistic. Have to think he is waiting for a bigger job, if he is wanting to leave. LSU has money and could get an experienced coach. From what I have heard, they need some upgrades there.

In Phoenix for the ECNL event I’ve heard that LSU have reached out to several coaches- Hale’s name was mentioned but apparently the coaches at Northwestern, Arizona, and WVU have been contacted as part of a ‘short list.’

I would be shocked if any of those mentioned even slightly entertained that option unless it was a huge pay raise

WVU is probably the assoc head coach. Arizona maybe? Is LSU a better job than Northwestern? MM came in with rave reviews, but he hasn't really lived up to expectations. They will most likely end up with a hire like last time. Getting an experienced coach from a successful mid-major. FGCU, Butler, Memphis, USF. Does LSU attract a P5 HC that maybe feels some heat? Louisville? Virginia Tech? Miami? Iowa?

Wait the northwestern coach hasn’t lived up to the hype? Have you looked at where the program is now compared to where it was when he arrived?

I am not saying he has been bad. Nothing really to speak of though is there? He has been to 4 NCAA's in 7 years. Went to a Sweet 16 but beat Kent ST and SIUE. He's been fine. I guess I expected more.

That program was in SHAMBLES before MM got there with DN. They've done an incredible job.

I totally agree. The turnaround has been great. Northwestern should be a top school
And the results over the past few years have shown that it can be done, but you have to credit the current staff with getting them there. Not sure if I would leave northwestern for LSU but the coaching staff definitely merit consideration for any job in the country.

Per his contract and to avoid getting sued by his lawyers, FBI informant and LSU suspended Basketball coach is reinstated by LSU. AD also announces the hiring of Richard Pitino as the next Women's Soccer Coach.

I would love to hear from anyone that thinks this makes any sense at all. Took a pay cut to work at a school that doesn't even have a campus field! This school just changed conferences to be with smaller privates spending less money on athletics. This is a big backward step compared to being a P5 AC.

So, did Leone want her to leave UMD? Did she think Leone would be leaving soon and got out on her terms? Maybe she didn't like Leone or flying around to get beat up in the Big10 at UMD? It's just an interesting one....

Maryland seat being fairly warm probably went for some security. Take the stability instead of staying at a program that is not achieving.

Seems like LSU are taking their time. Maybe the people on their shortlist were not interested? Expectations unrealistically high?
