one huge problem within the obvious u.s. defensive weakness....

...exposed by australia for all to see and take notes....

...put a quick, athletic player (foord) on ertz, and she ceases to be ace in the middle for this u.s. team.

watch for teams in the wc doing the same.

[when this happens, another ball winner like mewis instead of lavelle/horan might be the answer. but they’re still saving mewis’ knees. i think.]

Not that I can remember on either the men or the women at any age level. Brazil, on the men's side has had, a few times. a somewhat weak defense but the defenses involved were only considered weak because their offense was so strong.

I do not remember any WC winner with poor anything: defense, offense, transition, goalkeeping or coaching or anything else. Every winner had parts that were weaker than others but no part was "poor."

Of course I do not remember all the men's winners, I'm not that old, but I do remember all the winners on the women's side and not one had anything you could call poor or even weak. There were just strengths that were not as strong as others. It is kind of like saying Jack Nicholas had a poor short game.

OMG are you joking? ::insert 12 year old fangirl from 99 screaming:: I've secured my tickets for this match already but hot darn! I'm going to turn into that little girl for those few minutes when they are honored.

One thing that seems to deserve some recognition is that there will be one fan from these boards missing that really should have survived to see this honoring of that '99 team. That member is @FearM9. I had many conversations with him and he was one of most ardent supporters of the Women's team from that era.

I do not know about anyone else but I miss him and the interchanges we had even though he was a bit over-raptured with Mia. He passed years ago but, for me, I continue to remember him whenever something like this happens.

But will your fan-girling be equal to Sam Mewis's?

Hi 70’s today. May have total turnover of the 3 up top if Saturday practice is any indication. 3 day turn around and all.

I'm still not a fan of having the name of other women on the back.

From what I have read I "think" they will not be playing in those jerseys. I "Think" they will give the jerseys to the girls before the match starts.

But what do I know, I could be wrong

I think that's right, but it wasn't described well.

You know we might be falling into the trap of going our own thinking, a VERY dangerous thing at this stage of my life.

The supporter levels should have been turned down for the anthem and probably the game too.

The U.S. is still "favored to repeat as World Champions", Kate Markgraf? Not sure she's been watching the last few matches.

I'm still optimistic, but it's a stretch to say we're the favorites.

I like Kate, a lot. I thought she was big on France winning it all this year?

The match has appeared to calm down some now that we're in the second minute.
