The Canadian Premier League revealed their kits last night. One of them, the winner of the 2019 Spring Season will represent Canada at the 2019 CONCACAF League.

Dominican Republic FA did not register their teams on time and Trinidad and Tobago FA did not properly execute licencing criteria so this year's Caribbean Championship will only feature two Jamaican and two Haitian teams. I wonder what format will they use. I'd love to see two home-away knockout rounds.

I see that T&T was supposed to send their 2017 season teams. Between 2017 season and competition they qualified to via that edition they played full (2018) season which will qualify teams for 2020. Why, God, why?

Winner will qualify to CCL, rest of the teams to CL - worst will actually take part in playoff against Caribbean Shield winner (which kicked off in Curacao this week).

Wikipedia says that there will be a different outcome for all four clubs. Second place will go to the Concacaf League Round of 16, and third place will go to the Concacaf League Preliminary Round. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Caribbean_Club_Shield says the Club Shield is in progress. The Group Stage was on April 5, 7, and 9. The Quarterfinals are April 11, the Semifinals are April 13, and the Final is April 15. The games are in Willemstad, Curacao. Wikipedia does not have the bracket, but here are the Quarterfinalists:

    Santiago de Cuba
    Moulien (Guadeloupe)
Village Superstars (St. Kitts and Nevis)
    Club Franciscain (Martinique)
    Jong Holland (Curacao)
    Weymouth Wales (Barbados)
    Hoppers (Antigua and Barbuda)
    Robinhood (Suriname)

As best the ticos themselves understand it (and yes, I asked :D ), Saprissa have qualified for the Concacaf League on the strength of winning the full-year table, finishing runner-up in the Apertura for good measure. No one has any clue for what continental tournament (if any!) the summer Torneo de Copa winner will qualify.

    2. Club América [MEX1]

It's a hard thing to choose what confederation, along with its members, is worse - CONCACRAP or CONMEBOL.

Hey everyone, May's just around the corner, so...it's time for another CL/CCL qualifying roundup!

    North America

Canada: The Voyageurs' Cup doesn't kick off until mid-May; and the CanPL just kicked off yesterday, with no matches yet between the CL-eligible sides.

    USA: Long way to go...

Mexico: Both Apertura finalists made the Clausura playoffs, so there's a chance we could be looking at a hand-me down situation. Specifically, Cruz Azul winning the Clausura would slip Pumas in as the best team from the Apertura not yet qualified, while Cruz Azul doing what they do best (finish runner-up...sigh) or América showing up in the Final would get runaway Clausura leaders León back on the continental stage.

    Central America

Belize: It's all over as far as we're concerned: Belmopan Bandits won the full-year table. Not going to bother with the calculations: Verdes were the only side to finish in the same area code in the Opening Season, and they fell a point short in the Closing Season, so the Bandits will have another crack at the CL.

Guatemala: Apertura runners-up Comunicaciones will seal their return to the continental stage as soon as Cobán Imperial - 2nd in the full-year table and Clausura regular-season leaders - fall in the playoffs.

El Salvador: The Clausura playoffs are ahead...but Apertura runner-up Alianza won the full-year table, so they'll be back in the CL.

Honduras: Apertura runner-up Olimpia knew that it's just not Concacaf without them, so they won the full-year table to guarantee their return ahead of the Clausura playoffs.

Nicaragua: Managua and Real Estelí are head-and-shoulders above the rest, with two matches to go before the playoffs.

    Costa Rica:

San Carlos won the Clausura regular season, so they'll either win the Round 2 playoffs or face the Round 2 winner in the Final. The norteños will qualify for the Concacaf League so long as Pérez Zeledón don't win the Clausura.

Panama: Costa del Este fell like a brick, going from Apertura regular-season leaders to failing to reach the Clausura playoffs entirely. Haven't done the calculations yet (unless a kind soul can direct me to the full-year/relegation table), but their chances of reaching the CL are suboptimal.

    Caribbean

It all comes down to a week in Jamaica, with SV Robinhood waiting for the worst finisher from the Caribbean Championship group for the last CL spot.

For anyone following the Costa Rican league playoffs, UNAFUT has published a useful explanation of how they work. The most important takeaway is that the away-goals rule is in effect for all of Round 2 (semifinals and Final), but does not apply if there's a Round-3 Final b/w San Carlos and the R2 winner.

So I have to correct the list of qualifiers: I had the chance to catch up with a classmate from the University of Costa Rica recently, and he explained that the Torneo de Copa will be used to determine the last qualifier for this year's Concacaf League. So the Clausura finalists - San Carlos and Saprissa - will have to grab the title or wait for June to try and grab the last ticket.

The squads for the Caribbean Championship have been announced, and two things stand out for me:

    1) By a quick count, fewer than 10 of the participants are on the wrong side of 30, i.e. all four participants are coming in with young squads.

    2) There is only one foreigner participating, a Surinamese player on Portmore United.

Costa Rican newspaper La Nación noticed that everyone and their mother was confused as to how Concacaf League qualification was going to work this season, so they prepared a helpful explainer.

The tl;dr version is that nothing changed from last year's qualification process: no Torneo de Copa and no preference for runners-up, with remaining berths handed down the full-year table. This means that Saprissa are guaranteed to qualify; San Carlos, OTOH, have to win the Clausura or they'll watch the last berth fall down the table to Alajuelense.

Meanwhile, the Mexican Clausura quarterfinals wrapped up...and the semifinal between regular-season leader León and América means that the former is now guaranteed Champions League participation. The last Mexican qualifier will emerge from Monterrey, as the other semifinal will be a rematch of this year's CCL decider

In Guatemala, Guastatoya won the full-year table to claim the country's top seed. They will face Antigua in the semifinals, while Malacateco will take on Cobán Imperial.

    And in the Caribbean...

    Finally, for our reference:

The Panamanian Clausura play-in round/quarterfinals will take place tomorrow.

    2020 CCL Qualifiers

The CCL berth comes down to the last match on Thursday, with Portmore United just needing the draw to claim the Caribbean club title.

Time to summon @EvanJ : have Portmore ever played in a Concacaf championship before (i.e. not counting the Concacaf League)? I want to say yes, but can't remember exactly.

Portmore United won the 2005 CFU Club Championship to qualify for the 2006 Champions Cup (hereafter CCC). I knew they played in a CCC, and I looked up what year. They played their CCC "home" game in Houston and lost 2-1 to Club America. Club America won 5-2 at home for a 7-3 aggregate. Club America won that CCC and finished fourth in the CWC by beating Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, losing to Barcelona, and losing to Al-Ahly.
