That is more playing time then he would get a PSG. It is simply naive to think he would get more then that at Celtic. Celtic are pretty good up front he was always going to be a squad player there.

You keep saying this. You're also ignoring the fact that he's more productive than anyone else on the squad. Feels like he's earned more playing time.

He is a good guy to have come in and finish a game. However, the Scottish game is filled with hammer throwers. Celtic is notorious by the way of not treating loaned players well. They dont own Weah so they are going to favor Sinclair and others over him if it is even border line.

i dont really care about celtic. i care about weah.

im not saying i expected him to play more...but he is good enough to be.

i assumed that he only agreed to the loan with the promise of more playing time....he should only go to a team where he can learn to play 90 minutes regulary....9 minutes at the end of a game is not helpful for anyone.

i hope he leaves celtic asap and goes somewhere where he will play...wherever that is.

Man I don't get all the saltiness in here. I think the loan has been good, he is getting minutes with men and he is learning how to be a professional. The competition isn't top four league, but he is doing well hen he sees the pitch and I would rather this situation than last year with CP. Where CP wasn't in form ,and late on really worn out, yet he kept getting starts and going 90 which in retrospect seems to have hurt his confidence some.

He has plenty of time and it isn't like he is at the now or never point. The whole PSG fiasco was just bad luck with TT having a player that he knew available on a free, and he went with the devil he knew instead of some kid he knew very little about. A kid who might have been there in part because of who his daddy was.

Saw the last 40 seconds only to witness Burke missing a golden chance right at the end. Annoying that Tim scores last game and doesn't get the start this one, especially as it ended 0-0. Thinking he'll get the start next game. Not an ideal loan obviously, but thankfully it could've been much, much worse

    PASS.

This hasn't been a disaster like Wright's loan last year, but it hasn't been a success either, and we, PSG, and I imagine Weah as well have not gotten what was wanted out of the loan (though I'm more than willing to admit that Weah has enjoyed the club and it's fan base). I understand why it must be awesome to have Weah loaned out to your Celtic, but I could really care less. Either he gets the playing time that wasn't available at PSG, or he doesn't, and he hasn't, so it's time to move on, period. ZERO interest in any kind of extended loan. Zero. I imagine PSG has little interest as well.

Especially when complaining can't result in anything positive. In a month or so his time at Celtic is over. If he complains, he is either glued to the bench or what? Gets a 25 minute sub in rather than 10? Nope. There is literally zero positive to complaining other than the satisfaction of giving voice to your frustrations. The negative? Getting yourself painted as a malcontent when you won't get anything tangible out of the process of said complaining.

The lack of noise is meaningless.

This isn't a situation like say Carleton's, of being trapped in Atlanta, and having no routes of escape available to him other than becoming such a royal pain in the rear that maybe there's a 1-5% chance that they kick him to the curb of some other franchise just to rid themselves of the annoyance.

Since his dad allowed foreigners to own land in Liberia, he's got his hands full with the opposition there and has to keep all his accounting in the clear --he even reduced his own salary as president of the country.

So no more visits to PSG training grounds and no more contributions to youth development there (Georges is independently wealthy, but these days he wouldn't dare flaunt it).

Anyway, Junior has to make his mark or else the bigwigs at Paris may show their irritation with the lack of parental stimuli by parking him in the Scottish Premier.

Really? You think PSG will respond to Tim's father not "stimuli-ing" them (how? Donations? Appearance? Gentle tickles with the finger-tips) by "punishing" a player they own by "parking" him in Scotland?

Is that really how football works in Europe? I haven't been in a few months. Perhaps it's changed.

He has to show consistently with Celtic to avoid that. Who knows up to what point the limitations imposed on his dad due to his political career (post-January 2018, when he announced his reforms and made half of his followers mad) influenced their decision to bury the kid.

Who knows, indeed? I thought you were claiming you knew.

Again, are you saying you believe that PSG might "park" Weah in Scotland because of "limitations imposed on his dad due to his political career?" Cause that is a very interesting footie business strategy I'd be interested in knowing more about.

Or you can put it the other way: he'd have a longer leash if his dad could continue contributing.

Of course it's just speculation. Most of what's written on these boards is. And someone's take is going to look nuts to someone else, since we all operate in different milieus following diverse experiences.

From my own, I'm not surprised with pettiness that goes as far as people shooting themselves in the foot. And the way PSG dealt with Weah seems somewhat petty, giving him hope at first, then hiring someone who's unlikely to be any better at the last minute.

PS: Also, since French and Spanish are my first languages, I read the press and forums in French rather than the ones in English. Some of the PSG fans have been quite dismissive with Weah & bring up his dad at every turn.

"Fiston" (fils + piston = son + someone who benefits from nepotism) is one of the meanest nicknames I've seen them give a player. The narrative for some of them, from day one, was that he was there only because of what his dad did for the club, both in contributions and in PR.

And since he's no longer doing that they will "park" him in Scotland rather than, say, sell him?

    Because of... spite?

Selling him would be dumb. Guy has upside. Perhaps not enough to ever become a starter for PSG, but enough for them to give him a shot. IF they develop him properly.

So, he's too good to sell him, which would be "dumb," so instead, to "develop" him they will "park" him at Celtic out of "petty" reasons because of "limitations imposed on his dad due to his political career?"

And what is the footie logic at work for PSG there? And how does that make use of a player who is "too good" to sell?

Long leash: Weah is loaned out next cycle to a Ligue 1 club. When they put you in the same league is to assess how you'd do with the actual team, not just to increase your value some. If he does well, he's called back to play Coupe games and get sub minutes.

Short leash: Weah is kept in the SPL or other weaker league. Value increases moderately, just enough to keep him in the club under a new contract* without spending too much, to keep growing him in foreign leagues to eventually sell him for a pretty penny.

    ---
    * His contract expires in 2021, so if they want to keep him, they'll have him signing the extension in January-March 2020.

His last start seemed to be a bit of squad rotation, not a sign that he will be starting regularly. Still, if he continues to play in most matches and scores a couple more goals, that will be a good finish to the year IMO. We all want him to establish himself as a top 4 level player quickly, like Pulisic/McKennie/Adams, but he may take a little more time. He still plays "young."

So "parking" him at Celtic "on a short leash" in order to entice him to extend his contract next season is your prediction, because "limitations imposed on his dad due to his political career?"

I'd think it'd be one of the factors. It's not the route they'd take were they considering to give him a serious shot to ever be part of the team.

Otherwise it doesn't make sense that he went from scoring two goals in three appearances, garnering praise by fans and media, to parked with the reserves and sent away for the sake of buying a much older guy who can't assist nor score.

Take Moussa Diaby, who remained with the team in spite of not shining as much and needing seven games (and twice the minutes) to match the two goals scored by Weah, and playing a similar position (second striker/wide forward).

Lennon told The Scottish Sun about Weah: “He’s done really well. There is improvement in his game. He’s not the best of trainers, but he does his stuff on the pitch and you get players like that.

“Didier Agathe was rubbish in training and absolutely brilliant on a Saturday. I’m not saying Timo is that bad! But I am very pleased with him.”

    —————————————————-

Interesting comments. It’s better than great in training and shit on the pitch. However, hopefully he hears this and realizes he needs to do more in training if he wants to consistently see the pitch.
