60' 3-2 Sonnett(?) right throw-in at 10m, back to Mewis at box top right. Mewis jukes past 2 down box right to 6m, crosses outswinging to 8m 6-left, Carpenter deflects ball away with right ankle. Rapinoe collects at box top mid-left, runs around pressure to 22m 1/3 left, shoots right instep hard outswinging toward left side netting, and it bounces in past Williams's dive. Ya asked to see the boss so they sent her. WE'RE BACK ON TOP! pic.twitter.com/qkBqLYULfg— U.S. Women's National Soccer Team (@USWNT) April 5, 2019 63' 3-2 USA cross from ~arc top wide right to 12m 2/5 left, Mewis sidesteps in from box top and twist-heads wide left. Brief stoppage: Rapinoe made a near-post cut past Kennedy but pulled up and grabbed the back of her right knee, stays seated while others get water. 64' 3-2 USA subs in (2 of 6) #23 Christen Press for #9 Lindsey Horan.
66' 3-2 USA subs in (3 of 6) #22 Mallory Pugh for #15 Megan Rapinoe. 67' 4-2 USA right throw-in(?), to Morgan dribbling to box top center. Morgan does a left-instep-behind-right-foot drop pass to Sonnett(!) way up at 14m 1/3 right. Sonnett pivots ccw, lays off for Pugh filling space to 6-top right. Pugh shoots flat across mouth and lifts it over Williams's low stance, into left side netting. COLORADO CLUTCH.@MalPugh scores 38 seconds after subbing on in her home state! pic.twitter.com/KPmOey93uX— U.S. Women's National Soccer Team (@USWNT) April 5, 2019 68' 4-2 Australia subs in (2 of 6) #16 Hayley Raso for #8 Elise Kellond-Knight. 69' 4-2 Morgan turns through midfield box right, gets left foot clipped by van Egmond en passant, stays down with ankle pain. Kerr carries to 12m wide right, but Australia miss a pass down mid-right and over. Stoppage for Morgan?
75' 4-2 Australia subs in (3 of 6) #17 Mary Fowler (16 yrs old!) for #9 Caitlin Foord. 77' 4-2 Fowler passes ahead to Raso at 25m right touch. Raso drives 1-v-1 on Dunn, they bump hips repeatedly and ball eludes both, over endline. That's a tantalizing match-up. 78' 4-2 USA subs in (4 of 6) #12 Tierna Davidson for #2 Emily Sonnett. Davidson is LB (huh?), Dunn flips to RB. 80' 4-2 Australia hoof ball upfield, Heath crumples alone at ~30m mid-right -- and gets up. Australia eventually punt high to left post, Naeher does her jump-basket catch. Why not extend her arms and catch above her head?
Hmm, personally, I would say that I feel better about the result and the entertainment factor (and this game has definitely been entertaining), but I do not feel better about the performance, especially team defense, headed into a WC. (We all know that sometimes you run out of time before outscoring them to win...see the draw against England, or the loss against France when we decided to start scoring in the 90th minute.) EDIT: And, see, now a 3rd Australia goal!
Press screws up by being late to a double team and from there Australia has time to find Kerr mostly unmarked and....
Is it funny because of her problems with drinking (and driving) or because it will get said a lot and I'll have to drink to much?
