Here is the Georgetown match report. Sounds promising... https://www.collegian.psu.edu/sports/women_soccer/article_3119b57e-4a92-11e9-8a61-a78373959c42.html
3 Nittany Lions to play for U-23 Womens Team in La Manga Tournament. https://gopsusports.com/news/2019/4...to-represent-usa-with-u-23-national-team.aspx
does the method of selection not bother you? what have the 2 youth club players done relative to others to earn U-23 call ups? It certainly bothers me. The system is broken. to have Mark Carr coaching multiple age groups is alarming to say the least.
I'm not as familiar as you are re: Coach Carr. I don't mind them changing up the teams. The staff gets a look at a broader swath of potential age group and eventually full NTers. After seeing these 2 different groups of players, hopefully they'll have a better idea of their best 11 or best 18 or 22 etc. Who stands out in these groups of upper level players?
As far as Penn State is concerned, I think this is great. These call ups give those 3 players experience at a high level to prepare them for the beginning of the 2019 college season. Now, regarding the U-23 WNT roster, I think there's a thread for that somewhere. Although, I would like to say that I'd prefer seeing at least one game before passing judgement on the roster decisions.
so better preparation than PSU can offer? I doubt that very much under the current YNT regime. You have a player like Tagliaferri on your team and you pick 2 youth Club players instead, becuase Carr knows them. SMH
As for Tagliaferri, I really like her, but this latest U-23 lineup by Snow clearly shows he was picking a young roster, and I don't mind the 2 freshmen getting this experience. Yes, I think the U-23 friendly tournament experience is much better competition than what PSU is seeing this Spring. I know that the youth teams tend to pick players they know. We may not agree with it, but it's a reality we have to accept.
1. Snow did not pick the team 2. Its not a young roster 3. I dont think we agree on the level of competition or its relative benefit. Freshmen need to integrate with college teammates. Intl soccer does nothing to help that. 4. The issue is the signal it sends when you continually pick players who have not succeeded. Im not advocating for FT per se, Im just saying that picking kids who have repeatedly not justified selection ahead of kids doing well in College soccer is a bad precedent, but so USSF. They know better that the game. Btw, Ft is well known by the USSF you would assume as she went to 2 world cups.
My bad, I assumed Snow was also coaching at the La Manga tournament? The La Manga roster is relatively young (besides the 4 Euro-based players). Many of the players on the La Manga roster are underclassmen, compared to the players selected for the U-23 roster by BJ Snow for the Thorns Spring Invitational roster, who were mostly upperclassmen. Freshmen do need to integrate with their teammates, but 1 week will not hinder PSU's team development IMO. There is plenty of time until the start of the college season. How many players make it to the full WNT from the U-23 anyways? I assume a very small percentage of players ever make the full WNT (which is the only team of importance IMO) from the youth rosters. I never said that I agreed with you on the level of competition or the relative benefit of the youth teams. I only agreed that I think the USSF could do a better job choosing players at each level.
Another win for the Lions but without Coffey. https://www.collegian.psu.edu/sports/women_soccer/article_5a8474d8-5d5e-11e9-9f41-ebcd2d5ad19a.html
Nice article on Sam Coffey. It sounds like she will be a great addition to the squad. https://www.collegian.psu.edu/sports/women_soccer/article_a866c52c-66e4-11e9-875f-974f9e8c057b.html

Re Coffey.... She's a great pickup, regardless of whether she is better than Ogle or not. I would have to think any team in the country would be happy to have her. She was not the best midfielder in the ACC last year, though. I disagreed with just about every All-ACC award and half of the first and second teams, so maybe I have some bias. Coffey got the award, I think, because of BCs really impressive start to the year and to the fact that BC got as high as #3 or #4 in the college rankings. Somebody had to be rewarded for that and Coffey waltzed her way in.... I'm not sure how you guys got the upper hand in the OOC games with UVa the past two years, getting both of them at home. I was going to come up last year, but I could see that it was pouring and I didn't feel like a 4 hour drive to stand in the rain. I'm planning on coming up this year, good weather permitting and see whether the Cavs can defend last year's rain-soaked stinker.
