Turns out, it was. Today is not the day. Coming back for another 🏆 #AprilFoolsDay @FSUSoccer @Seminoles pic.twitter.com/7amKCM2d6q— Deyna Castellanos (@deynac18) April 2, 2019
That's a relief. We are capable of winning the natty without her, but winning it with her is infinitely easier! I've listened/watched every game available for years. Last year, in particular, I kept hearing announcers voicing concern when DC was not taking over a game. They used terms, like "disappears" "not engaged" etc. That could not be further from the truth! Mark has worked very hard to have her work within the system and let the game come to her, and not to force it. Even in the games where her stats (assists and goals) don't reflect a great impact, she is making a difference. She and Zhao are the best passers by far on the team. She reads the field and gets the ball where it needs to be with ease. She also maintains possession in times (double or triple teamed) when most players lose it. She draws so much attention, that it frees up other players. (See game winning goal against UNC in ACCCG) Her soccer IQ is off the charts. On the game winning goal in CC game against UNC, she waited until her angle made Leshnak go to the back post freeing up DD for the redirection goal. I love Deyna and am glad she is back! Her game is about so much more than goals and assists!
Lord have mercy, she let that sit out there for a while and seemed to have a few others in on the joke to make it look legit. Happy we get to watch her in the garnet and gold for one more season!
I didn't think about it, but we missed a great April fools joke on UNC. We could have posted about DD getting a 5th year waiver (bogus) due to prior injuries. UNC fans would have freaked out, b/c DD was their kryptonite last year.
Patten to USCe is official. She is a wonderful young woman and I wish her all the best! She will always be remembered for her slick move that started the game winning goal sequence in the national championship game. Thank you Anna
Not FSU to my knowledge but if you check a few rosters there might be a kid or two missing.(cough SB Ind) but thats not for me to say
Not a starter, but played in 33 games her first two years at Duke: Gabi Brummett transferring to Portland.
Not someone I was ever impressed with, nor will I miss her. MK McGuirre came in (as a similar player) with better speed and could actually score, and took Brummett’s spot essentially
So I'm new to the NCAA Soccer fandom and I'm trying not to let my football recruiting side come out here, but why would someone who was a pretty good contributor on a National Championship team transfer to another school? I get going home to play pro, but to transfer to another school, never quite understand that. Was she told that she wasn't going to get as much playing time? Are one of the Freshman better than her? Sorry for the newb questions, just curious.
Someone speculated (probably true) that she wanted to play CB like she does for England U teams. We have been using her like a Swiss Army knife all over. I suspect she was told she would be in the MF, not the back. She wanted the opportunity to get her playing time in the back; therefore, she transferred. I believe USCe has one of her U team mates from across the pond. That is my educated guess. As a general rule, girls usually transfer for more playing time (Anna Patten) or to be on a more competitive team (Abby Newton from LSU to us) Cheyna Williams was in the latter category and was no small part in our first Natty!
