Source: Hamburg looking for long term loan option for Bobby Wood as Hannover will not purchase him this summer. Options include Bundesliga 2 sides, Austrian first division. MLS not in play at the moment.— MLS Transfers (@MLSTransfers) April 3, 2019
Could score tons of goals in Austria. And he wouldn't have to lose that German fluency I do wonder what might be if he just remains at Hamburg.
I think he needs a new location. A place that fits his skillset better and will look to do more than long ball. I actually think he’s look good for Red Bull. Might want to look at the Austrian side tho as the German one isn’t going to be interested.
wonder if Wood has a clause that forces H96 to buy him if he plays enough games. Their 2 players on loan from England Wimmer and Asano both have such clauses and because of that H96 doesn't want to play them anymore.
RB Salzburg to get his foot in the door with RB with an eye to playing for NYRB in the last few years of his career.
Tough spot to be that overpaid and need a new team. Personally, I wouldn't blame him for just sitting around and getting paid until the contract runs out if no one else can at least come really close. He's never going to get that kind of money again.
No reason they won't find a loan for him if they are willing to carry a reasonable portion of his pay. Unless the knee is really chronic. If they're writing the check anyway, might as well offload some part of it if you really don't want the guy around.
Austrian BL?? Ouch. RB Salzburg, Rapid and Austria Vienna apart, that league is pretty low quality. Negotiate a settlement on the contract and make a fresh start as a free agent, even if it's in Holland or Belgium mid-table. After agent's fees and taxes, it'll still be a million euros in cash. Added to what he (should have) saved over the last few seasons and what he can still get as a free agent, he'll have made bank anyway.
German Article from a couple weeks ago. H96 not thrilled. Might be lost in translation but coach calls him s “sensitive player”. Says he will go back to Hamburg and make his 3.5M euros/yr. Article says he has good reputation for US but not Hannover. https://www.sportbuzzer.de/artikel/hannover-96-was-ist-mit-patient-wood-los/
Why wouldn’t he? He seems to have ongoing knee issues that might well say he should make his money while he can.
He's always been a bit of a headcase but he puts in better performances for the national team. I'm still hoping for a return to Union Berlin.
Didn't he move to Germany when he was like 14/15 or something and have to be twice as good as the locals to get a chance. I gotta imagine the psychological effect in a do-or-die environment as a young foreign kid.
Jack Rodwell is just gone 28. Five years ago he was a standout at CB, DM & AM for Everton and was England's Next Big Thing. So much so, that Citeh paid 12 million Sterling for his services. After two seasons, and 16 appearances and moved to the Great Black Hole of footballer's careers, aka Sunderland for 10 million, signing a 5-year deal and 70k a week. That was seen as a coup for Di Crazio and Ellis Short He tore up his contract last summer, after 3 months of training alone, with 76 appearances in all competitions over four seasons, only 45 of which were starts. It was so bad that, asked about Rodwell's whereabouts at his final pre-game press conference, the coach remarked that he didn't know where Rodwell was mentally. That was widely seen as a tacit admission that he didn't know where he was physically, either. He's now riding the pine at Blackburn on a one-year deal that's unlikely to be renewed, but the 12-13 million he's earned must be some compensation for the derision of being - pound-for-pound - British football's worst-ever signing.
Rodwell asked to leave Sunderland, but couldn't find someone to meet his wage demands. Sunderland offered to terminate his contract, but Rodwell chose to train with the youth team instead and collect paychecks for doing nothing. This was a big drain on Sunderland's financial situation. Eventually Sunderland and Rodwell agreed to terminate his contract.
