Darren was on the wrong end of a 5-1 thrashing in the second leg.

Ordinarily, you'd be fair in concluding that he had a bad night. He didn't; producing a number of excellent saves and a few that could legitimately be world-class contenders. It's just that Ireland were terrible, being carved open at will after Denmark's equalizer secured the crucial away goal. It would have been a lot worse without Darren.

Thomas Delaney will be the only Yank in Russia I'm afraid.

For sure. We have decent alternatives: Rob Elliot is Newcastle's no. 1 (this season), Kieren Westwood has been Wednesday's no. 1 for a good number of years, and Colin Doyle is doing well at rapidly-rising Bradford. But Darren was playing at a much higher level for much longer, and has produced consistently good performances as the man in possession. Barring injury, he's going to keep his place.

Rodney Wallace with Costa Rica too, I'm assuming.

This is also a reminder that Neven Subotic's career has gone off the rails.

    Plenty of praise tonight:

996486820878802944 is not a valid tweet id

But the offense let them down in a 0-0 draw that sees Aston Villa into the final.

Why do they name the teams this early in the season? There are quite a few games to play yet.
