I have to imatine this was some kind of instruction, because the only winger who took people on was Lewis, who even still had an opportunity to open up his legs but passed it back. 3. He had a cross for an assist if he's not wrongly called for offside. I think he's better in GZ's spot, but still.
I agreed with your last statement. If he's to get on the field, it's as a forward. He does not have the tool sets to be an effective attacking winger.
I'll give Jordan Morris my worst possible compliment: he's the current version of Conor Casey, a decent BS2 player and during several MLS years who never succeeded at a higher level.
I think some of you are too quick to judge. He's had one match for the national team that was underwhelming and a few for the Sounders that have been fantastic. Maybe give him a few more runouts before throwing the idea out.
If you can stay with him in a straight line, you can cover him. He's not going left. If another defender comes along, he's in the corner. As a winger, bad choice.
He's 24. He's never been able to dribble his mark or cut inside on his left. Which means every time he receives due to his own limitations half the pitch is cut off. He almost never beats his mark going right either. Far too limited to be put on the wing at this level. Terrible possession player. His attribute is cutting inside from the left off the ball and getting a touch or two in the box. Morris at RW is arguably worse than Adams at RB. If we're pulling from MLS a cat like Chris Mueller is superior. He actually can use both feet, is a dribbler and has some ideas in the link game.
The team sucked because of the horrible line up Arena put out. Pulisic didnt get the ball because of the poor Bradley/Acosta mdfield and Graham F-ing Zusi playing right back. The highlights show Pulisic not having tunnel vision a couple of times and didnt show much from Morris. The SA players ratings also dont align with your view that Morris "greatly out-played" Pulisic. I'd say the both had average games and if either had an edge it would have been Pulisic. What did Morris do besides the pass to pulisic (amazing a player with tunnel vision would play a give and go and get a shot off) and the header? It seems like you guys will say anything to prop up these average MLS players, including degrading Pulisic. 5 Christian Pulisic (Bor. Dortmund/GER), 18/7. Came back to life late in the first half to set up a chance for Dempsey and link up with Morris to hit a shot on frame. Fought through several brutal tackles to finish the match. Won the free kick that produced the U.S. goal. 5 Jordan Morris (Seattle Sounders), 23/5. Shot just wide with a good chance in the opening minutes. Bottled up much of the time but won the header that created the equalizing opportunity for Wood.
He made a horrible decision for his career. Werder Bremen would have pointed out all the flaws in his game that are clear to everyone and tell him to start fixing them. If he succeeded at improving significantly in those areas, he would have made it in the Bundesliga. If he didn't he could have found a level in Europe or come back to the cushy job at Seattle a better player. Instead, he walked into the starting line up with no pressure to fix those issues. When he was in college, he had the potential to make it to the international level and was used well by the USMNT coach. Now, it should be clear that he is not and will not be an international level player and good Berhalter so far hasnt used him well. There is no reason for him to be in this camp.
Morris is good at getting behind the defense but not when the opponent is bunkering. Having said that, against a bunkering opponent, Adams has to advance into the lateral areas of the final third to create a triangle because Morris has the full back and the opposing left mid covers McKennie. If you go to Adams' passing chart (see link below), you will see he had zero passes originating in the final 20yds on the wing (corner flag area). Basically the bunkering team is worried about US getting behind them only along the end line. (Ecuador were tall and handled aerial game well on crosses. ) Adams is very good at that short game around the corner flag. he did it often for RedBulls. Bingo - And playing Zardes AND Morris were not the right type of players to do anything against a bunkering team. I saw no adjustment from GB for this and that's alarming. I just dont see Morris having a place on this team anymore. There are too many others fighting for a speed spot and I just dont see him wining. Im not sure Zardes is the answer either but would be shocked to see GB lose his phone number.
nah his lateral movement is poor and his quickness is below average at best. I get you are annoyed that I caught that but come on the kid isn't elite in any single way and is average in anything but a straight line. he isn't quick, he isn't good on the ball and doesn't have good vision. He does fill a role but the truth is that lewis is showing he may be a better option for that late down by a goal and need a point so you bring on someone who is fast against tired legs hoping they can help guy.
He'd probably be killing it in Sweden or Norway though. Probably could do some damage in Vietnam too.
Casey suffered major knee injuries which likely altered the trajectory of his career. So far, Morris is still bangin 'em in at a prodigous rate.
