don't ask me, that's what some of the reports said. Could be to raise his stock even more. One of the reasons why he's out besides that Hertha has tons of GK competition is that he wanted match practice at higher level and he won't get that at Hertha. Seems like he wants to play at higher level as it would be helpful.

And Hertha thinking that he isn't progressing is irrelevant to him being out I guess.

that was last season, this one recently they said he has made plenty of progress but they seem to value the other GKs they have more than Klinsmann Jr.

who knows if it's true maybe he said he'll continue to play for USA only if he's #1.:p

If we qualify for the Olympics, I think 1st string GK will be an overage selection.

Should be. If we brought overaged Friedel ahead of Howard in 2000.

Josh Saunders... and the other two overage players will be Ned Grabavoy and RJ Allen!

    (sorry)

I don't see any reason to believe that any player has been provided with a firm commitment about their role. We didn't have a coach until this week, and surely its his decision.

What I would say is that the keeper crop is fairly thin for the U23 group. So it is at least possible that he'll win the #1 role.

A channel has been created for the U23 Egypt match.

Since this game is watchable, maybe we should do a game thread? I may be able to half-watch, though that's not certain. And even if I am, my insights are of dubious value.

    Holland channel:

What times the game in the US?

If you click on the channel itself it should show you the game time in whatever your device's local time is.

Well, we're at anthems now. Watching random blurry webstreamed U23 games brings back memories for sure.

    Pines is huge!

    There's kickoff.

I'll probably just do updates if something significant happens (and I happen to notice it) FWIW.

Looks like a Kreis 4-4-2 diamond. Which means they are not playing GB's system. Which means this whole thing is a waste for all the players who will be competing for the Gold Cup roster.

I don't think that's true. Just because the formation is different, doesn't mean the roles and functions aren't similar to the senior team. Also I feel like "waste of time" is a strong take

Djorde has been not good. Olosunde looked good early. Wright hasn't been involved. Parks and CCV only players calm on the ball. Farfan not impressive.

But they have probably only had one training session with Kreis. Egypt looks more like a team.

It's either that or a 4-3-3 that is looking different from standard because Sabbi is often dropping deeper at RW than Weah is at LW. Mihailovich may also be attempting the free 10 role from the senior team system, hard to say for sure. Last few minutes he has been playing deeper in midfield.

Egypt scores on a terrible clearance from a corner. 1-0

This team is lacking a bunch of everything.

Before that Farfan decided to dribble, lost the ball and fouled. Pines won't finish the game. Those two are worse than the average level of ugglines of that team.
