I would say McBride was far more prolific in his overall play as a target guy and defending on set pieces for FFC than Wood provides. That is, he provided more beyond goals and assists.

Yes, he was a reliable 9 in holding up the ball. He set up plays with his head. He also was a decent passer and could thread the needle from time to time. There's a reason the stadium bar is called "McBride's."

tbf (to me) this was the point: "Wood has struggled to make that kind of overall impact, obviously, but he's younger and a very different personality. Hope his knee is ok."

Which I guess you agree with?

Yep: "Wood has struggled to make that kind of overall impact, obviously, but he's younger and a very different personality."

Wood can defend some. Guy puts in a shift, no one can call him lazy.

But he's much less gifted than McHead. Bobby need a clear line of sight to score. And enough time. And perfect wind conditions.

If Wood doesn't score he is absolutely useless. And he isn't scoring anymore.
I'll take much maligned Zardes over not scoring Wood with no hesitation. Comparing McBride to Wood is an insult to McBride.

Wood is one of those players who feeds off of his own success and craters without it....i mean, all players are subject to that dynamic - but Wood's short-term form is more influenced by his current results/experiences than most every player I've ever seen....idk why....if it fragility or what....he seems pretty hard-nosed in general in terms of style of play.....seems something to do with his mentality.....

I still feel like if he was on a team that was creating a lot of chances and dominating possession he would be a major threat and be considered much better than he currently is....seems unlikely he will ever be on a team like that, though....unfortunately.

That’s why I want to see him in the Eredivisie...he could land with a mid table team, the league is technical and played at a decent pace, he’d play Ajax, PSV maybe Europa League. He’d have to take a cut in pay, but it might extend his career.

Very high salary but very low performance. That's a 'tweener.

    Of a kind anyway.

so that leaves Wood 8 games for the season as his coach says he won't be there this weekend.

Any reasons given? This is the second game in a row that he's not in the squad. Maybe a move to MLS really is in the offing.

Seems to say he flew to Munich for a second (medical) opinion.

Because he hasn't been trying? Scoring on a shit team is a lot harder than watching soccer on TV.

Finnbogason has managed 10 goals for Augsburg, a team just as bad as Hannover, and is the reason why they're not in the relegation zone. And no one is saying the guy is a great player.

I dunno about a great player, but he is better than Wood - as his value and goals scored indicate.

Hope Wood's knee heals. Seems like it may be verging on chronic at this point?

As expected based on the information in this thread, Wood has not made the 18 for today's match against Augsburg.

Hannover are 3-1 down in the final minutes today. The bad news for Wood is that he's no longer Hannover's top scorer - Weydandt has now surpassed him with his 4th goal

I wonder what's worst. Being a goalkeeper or strike on a relegation fodder club.

Weydandt's story is still interesting he came from like the 7th division when he moved to RL Nord and than to moved H96 II in Summer 2018. He's a giant at 1.95 m that impressed H96 staff in training and ended up being a 1st team player. Jumps like that are very rare these days. And performance wise he's done very well for a complete newbie when it comes to top flight football.

Striker. Goalkeepers get more action and get to stand out. Strikers just get frustrated.

On a relegation team, everyone just feels sorry for the goalkeeper unless he's actively screwing things up.

In a team like Hannover the goalkeeper has his chance to be Howard vs. Belgium, too. And whether good or bad, the man never gets bored.
