Just goes to show, if you use 15 different formations, confuse your players, rely heavily on those confused, out-of-position players, and lose consistently while playing like hot garbage, you too can be considered the best manager in Europe!

He should stick to the industrial engineering gig.

After all, in the grand scheme of things, industrial engineers can be much more useful to humanity than soccer managers.

Dortmund also fired Tommy Two touch Teuchel, the very next best coach on the continent. There are most of you here who identify with the players, because frankly, that is your level of sympathy. Others fancy themselves administrators, so club president scores most of the goals.

But every once in a while, a coach outperforms his peers with inferior players. At which point, players get inflated egos and club presidents score hat tricks!

In this case, Tedesco took a talentless team with one good attacking player and made them a contender. He then lost his only good player. Because he does not have a German last name, he is not getting the press that say a Nagelsmann would get, despite being a better coach.

But continue on looking at shiny things...then other shiny things.

I’m still trying to figure out if the 1 good player S04 lost was Goretzka, Meyer or Kehrer. Tedesco’s job is to get results...did he get screwed by losing those players and getting Uth and Rudy in return? Maybe, but he’s not put his players in a position to do well either.

It’s one thing if a team is organized and plays hard, but S04 players look like they have no idea what is expected of them and they seem to have lost faith in recent weeks. He made it impossible to keep him.

I’m sure when we look back in 5 years and S04 is finally clawing their way back from BL2 while Tedesco has won 3 league and UCL titles (hopefully with Weston) we will reach consensus on who is at fault.

Did DT get them to overperform last year? You bet, but he’s a big part of their underperforming this year as well.

I really don’t care at all about the success/failure of Schalke. They could go down and I don’t care as long as Weston isn’t In the 2 bundesliga with them.

Tedesco played crap soccer and they sucked to watch. If Weston wasn’t on their team, I wouldn’t have watched.

Schalke and their board being good or bad has no effect on me. I just want the American player to be in a good situation.

Truth is, the Bundesliga has had a rough season. Had they kept their usual level, we may not have seen McKennie & Adams get so many minutes. And even Pulisic would have been reduced to tiny cameos.

The bottom four of the Bundesliga are worse than the bottom four in the EPL. That's not usually the case.

Bottom line: continental Europe is paying for the exodus of their top coaching talent to England. Money finally talked: you didn't have to buy just the best players, you also had to buy the best brains. I could have told them that.

Tomorrow is Adams vs. McKennie, and the 3 points are important for both: Leipzig is tied with 'Gladbach and Frankfurt is only 3 pts. behind. A slip, and they may lose their shot to play Champions.

On the other hand, Schalke is only four points clear of the red line, and Stuttgart hosts Hoffenheim, a game they may win. And Augsburg hosts Bobby's Hannover, so they're likely to get three too.

If your top-level career spans two seasons, you don't get to write off a terrible one as an aberration. Still, the great '17-18 will always be on his resume, and should earn him some other good opportunity. Plus, he'll stay intertwined with the rise of McKennie in my mind as his most important early advocate.

And I hope that he's one day a footnote in the wildly successful Haji Wright story, but I'll probably be too distracted by hunting for the unicorn guarding the holy grail.

Tedesco might not have been the problem (that was Heidel) but once Heidel was gone and with no improvement and sagging squad morale ... you know the old saying, easier to fire the coach than to fire the entire team!

Tedesco also made some questionable coaching decisions that the fans were fine with when we were squeaking out wins last year but now ...

You almost always get the new coach rebound, and that's probably all Schalke needs to stay in the Bundesliga.

In the bundesliga if you can defend you eventually hit midtable. Fortuna is a good example of a team without any talent that has managed to do far better than their talent because of that 5-4-1.

But in order to be top 3 or 4 all you really need is 90% fortuna and 10% one good attacking player. Goretzka made this team go by seeing the attacking pass 1 second before guys like Spuds et al. He didnt need to collect, look up, think, pass. He was already attacking.

WIthout that Tedesco kept trying different players to create. He realized he had none. So then the decided pressure would create for him. Then he realized he has no strikers and no finisher. He then tired this and that...but ultimately his teams lack of talent killed him. I mean, that should be obvious.

You watch guys like deBoring in atlanta and it's the opposite: good talent, bad coaching. that much should also be obvious. But you guys and your terrible analysis.

The problem with this logic is if Fortuna can do it "without any talent" but Schalke can't do it "without any talent" the difference has got to be, to some part, the manager.

You can say Tedesco kept screwing around with his line-up because he had aspirations beyond avoiding the drop. And you'd probably be right. But at some point part of a coach's job is to know what he's got, how it fits together and how to get through a season in good enough shape to live to fight again.

I just can't figure what exactly he thought he was going to achieve with some of those deck chairs he rearranged.

Schalke are extremely unlikely to even fall into the playoff, obviously, but that they could possibly still slip to 15 is pretty remarkable.

Illogical. Good coaches don’t need good talent to suceed, or...in this case, to not have a dog crap team.

YES! I’m ready for some Yank on Yank.

McKennie and Adams both in the starting 11. Hard to pick a team to root for though.
