DR Congo didn't even qualify for the African Nations this summer. So it's not like there's a short term carrot for him to make the switch. Just seems like lazy journalism and a way to make a non-article worthy question 'will AWB make the England squad?' into a published 500 word piece.

Not a chance he will choose Congo over us. It's not Ghana or ivory coast. He's already spoken about his desire to break into the england squad

The AWB issue was just reported on Skysports News. The presenter said AWB was 24 (wrong) and then Roy Hodgson was saying he doesn’t think there is anything in it. In Roy’s word’s AWB is looking forward to going to the ‘World Cup’ in the summer with Aidy Boothroyd

I wouldn't be surprised if this is Crystal Palance and/or his agent trying to get the lad an England cap before the summer transfer window.

From what I’ve generally read on twitter ( I know it’s not gospel ) but apparently he has rejected them on quite a few occasions according to quite a few Scotsman. If that’s true, I would be surprised if he’s now looking to switch. To be fair though Boothroyd has messed him about in the U21’s and constantly played Henderson even in friendlies when he should be playing Gunn more.

I've always liked Gunn. Tall, decent reflexes, and not bad at distribution. He's still got great potential and would help us plenty with our depth at goalkeeper.

Yeah I've always seen him as a direct competitor to Pickford providing he gets game time. Touch wood, he seems to be getting game time now and doing very well indeed. Can't see him pledging to Scotland when he's in with a shot of being named in our squad, especially when he's constantly turned them down all these years.

At senior level, yes. However, their underage pool of players has gotten better in the last five years.

I've just gotta say this. I've been discussing the declan rice situation with some Irish on Twitter and they have really taken it badly. They are arguing that he is Irish and we have stolen him off them. They really are pathetic and they don't want to acknowledge that he and his parents are all English.
I was trying to be civil scene as my grandparents are Irish so I would be in the same position. But they really are ridiculous and they're comparing it to us stealing all their resources in the past when they used to be a colony. Glad I never chose to play for them when I was a kid.

To be fair, they have some decent players. Robertson, Tierney, Fraser, Snodgrass, McTominay and a few others.

Honestly it’s quite baffling how those type of fans think. I mean off course their gutted to lose a player born and raised in England but to accuse us of stealing their player is a bit rich to be honest. To be fair there’s a good majority of Ireland fans that aren’t bitter as they know they have benefited from the English system for years, just like the Welsh and probably to a lesser extent Scotland and don’t cry about it.

There's people on here who are bitter despite rarely losing a player they'd even want.

youre super diplomatic topbanana. I dig that about you. They are awful. Truly aweful. And what would annoy me most if I were scottish is that the sfa have done nothing about it. They still live in the dark ages and have let their infrastructure rot instead of pulling their finger out, recognising a problem and doing something about it, like we did. ...and their youth teams are not that good. Theres no troy parrot in there

Their youth teams are doing really well in recent years, taking a massive step up and the SFA have made massive reforms. Not sure where you're getting your info.

their youth have always been light years behind us? Something would've gone incredibly wrong had they overtaken us.

And I think thats the point on both sides mate. Success is relative. So whilst I acknowledge minor improvement in the youth teams, its improvement from a dire place that isnt going to make an impact on the world stage. Just as i dont consider tierny etc players who are good, or comparable with anything in our squad, which was my original statement. At this moment scotland still seem way behind ireland who would seem a fair comparison. And, perhaps I am ignorant, but I honestly cant name one Scotland youth player worth keeping an eye on because we think they could be quality. Can you? (Not goading you, genuinely interested)

When england released the dna docs that seemed a clear statement with a clear pathway, based on a lot of research and relationships with the german and belgian fas, among others. They also built st georges park. What scottish fa reforms have been so impactful or ambitious in scope?

The Scottish Football Performance School programme is probably wider in scope than anything the FA actually implemented. Understandably so because Scotland need to max out smaller resources + are coming from a much worse starting spot.

Billy Gilmour is one. Then another obvious one is Karamoko Dembele, but obviously we pick and choose when to give credit to a player's 'home nation' or not at times.

Dembele might yet choose England and gilmour might go the way of Islam feruz. I also don't get the hype over Robertson. Reminds me of Phil Neville. No technique, slow can't pass

Wow. Robertson in my opinion is the best left back in the PL. Light years better than Phil Neville ever was.
