Busio is having trouble getting on the ball much because his lack of sharp runs off the ball and physicality. Had a couple chances but too predictable with them and not precise enough. Looks like a kid out there. Lewis was decent last week and goes right to the bench. MLS going to MLS. Same thing happened to Mueller. NYCFC has been hapless in the attack. Couldn't get that separation. Hey, I have an idea...
I'm watching DC/NYC.....I was hoping for a Busio all-touch video later lol Arriola should've had an assist in the 10th minute but Johnson made a really nice reaction save to deny Acosta. Arriola has made a few dangerous runs and had another nice cross that nobody got on the end of but overall he's picked up where he left off against ATL last week. Sands has been pretty good as well, he looks composed and hasn't made any glaring errors. I think he's been better than Canouse so far.
Sounds like a NYCFC problem not an MLS problem. I think the issue needs to be discussed at the club level. Tons of kids played yesterday. And if they're not ready for MLS many are getting serious minutes with USL affiliates.
I mentioned another example. The common thread between the two players are they're young, domestic non-homegrowns and attacking mids.
Busio didn't look ready. Very fragile and a step behind the play. PT in USL and time in the weight room/cafeteria will help him.
Great weekend for the USNT goalkeeping pool. Sprawling saves and clean sheets for all of Steffen, Hamid, Melia, and Johnson a day ahead of roster announcements. No way that group can be filled by players abroad. Lewis came on in the 75th minute and wasn't his normal confident self (likely because of the quick yank from last week). He was second-guessing his first instinct on most opportunities. Normally he'd have a goal and/or an assist w/ those chances.
The criticism was really overdone, imo. The last game for us was lost over that side when Herrera had been benched in favor of Glad. We could have played like this --------------------------epb ----------x--------glad------ccv-----herrera instead we played ----------------------jones -----x-------epb---------ccv------glad
He looked bad, that's all. Glad was the better player, perhaps not at RB, but overall. And Herrera was at least bad enough to suggest a change like that.
Yeah, that was an excellent pass. ATL do not look very good overall. Lots of space given up to Cincy, and not much creativity in the attack...
Saief is lethal. Carleton made some very good runs behind the FCC back line, but had zero support. Oddly enough, he’d benefit from a guy like Saief in the midfield who seems to always be looking for those types of runs.
zim, lee. ramirez v. ebo, v/fana set to kick off. good tifo. definitely want to get a trip to LA so I can check out a game there before Bradley gets in his own way and wrecks the great team he put together.
Steffen had quite the game v. Ne - I just saw the hi lites. Call ups? Steffen, Horvath, Melia for me.
Good to see an increase in butts in the seats for LAFC. Guess they are doing a better job of marketting their product this year. Also, already Spencer Richey time for Cincinnati? thats good to see , hopefully he can push the GK conversation this season
Portland should acquire Mueller. They use Polo who doesn't have enough offensive punch so they start him and bring on Asprilla who doesn't play very good defense. Mueller would add some energetic offense for Valeri to work with. ----------------ebo -----blanco---valeri---mueller ---------guzman--chara
Whoscored American-eligible team of the week ----------------Zardes(8.2)------------ Ibarra(7.7)---------------Morris(7.5) ------Pomykal(8.4)-Roldan(7.5)------- Herrera(8.2)--Sands(7.9)--Lennon(7.5) ------Besler(7.8)--Opara(8.2)------- -------------Melia(8.5)------------ HM: Steffen - 8.4 Hamid - 8.1 Rimando - 8.0 Hedges - 7.8 There were a surplus of great keeping performances. Last week was owned by the offense, this week the defense. The SKC human wall is back together. note: what I saw this weekend didn't jive much with WS ratings, fwiw. Sapong only 6.9? Miles Robinson only 6.8? They were best xi of the week. Busio 7.1? He really struggled. 7.9 is somewhat flattering for Sands, though he was decent (got a lot of praise from team).
A lot of teams should acquire him, and then sit him on the bench because they over-invested in attackers so he's victim of a numbers game in multiple ways.
That guys like Mueller and Lewis are still on the bench means we have clearly swung the pendulum way too far to the foreign player at the expense of the domestic player.
Foreigners have much more leeway and for at least Muellers case, it’s unjustified dude was literally one of their best players and scored a goal and got replayed by get 3 minutes of playing time the next game...
