Ugh. Absolutely awful from EPB. He single-handedly kept one PSV player onside and then got beat to a pass by a 2nd PSV player in the box, for a goal. Just atrocious defending.

He's been called up by the US U23s for the March international break. Apparently our U23s are holding their first camp of the cycle in Spain starting March 19, with Olympic qualifying looming later this year.

The lack of real minutes in the last 2 or 3 years has hurt his decision making at CB. Gotta take these lumps though.

Not buying that excuse....look how Adams and McKennie have stepped into a higher level and both are younger than EPB. The body is willing but the mind may be weak?

Adams had 108 professional appearances before he moved to Germany, including 38 last season.

EPB had 55 before this loan, and only 9 last year.

It's not an excuse; it's an indictment of his development process.

  6. If he had signed with PSV he would have been with better players, which would have been better for his development. It wouldnot be a guarantee for success as he still would need to prove his worth, but the circumstances to reach your potential are there for the taking. Now we have no clue what his level is as his team mates seem to be very unmotivated and one can wonder how that's during training. So not the circumstances to bring up the best in you.
He has to sit out this ride and move to a better environment for his development. That however is going to be a difficult issue as you're carrying this shit season with you.

I don't know the story on EPB only that he looked about the best player on US youth sides some years back. That "promise", for whatever reason(s) has been slower to bloom. What part of his "development" do you want to indict as the reason he isn't getting full Nats call-up consideration while younger (and less touted) guys do?

Kansas City didn't play him enough, sent him on a pointless loan to Portugal, didn't play him enough when he came back, and then he signed for Man City, which is great for his bank account but dumb for his development.

Basically every step of his development has been the wrong one. Some of that falls on Kansas City, some of that falls on him.

Or, maybe he's just one of those youth stars who never fully pans out, and even the right decisions wouldn't have mattered. I haven't seen him enough to make any judgment on that front.

So why again didn't Porto sign him after he performed well for the B squad? I remember reading they didn't have the funds for him, but that felt very OFF.

An excuse? If his coach thinks someone else gives them a better shot to win they will bench him like before. I just think the CB position needs the most reps.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. The steps put before him haven't been the wrong ones. He's had opportunities to move forward in his professional career. That hasn't happened at the pace many, myself included, might have predicted. The Porto thing was a big chance. He's still on the road. He's still in the Nats program...

CBs take longer to develop, so the comparison to Adams is not apt. EPB is a 21-yo centerback. He is where he should be--developing in a mid-level Euro league. Very, very few 21-yo CBs coming in from the Americas are starting in the top leagues.

  13. I think his position till the end of the season is safe as the CD Mets's behaviour has sent him out of the selection. He was training with such a desinterested attitude he was sent away by the coach and that after an earlier fall out with him earlier this year that already sent him to the bench. So after "reconciliation" Mets disappointed Van der Gaag again, so I donot expect to see him back.

    4th straight game going 90.

Other options injured or really horrendous or is the coach just willing to give him a chance again?

  19. To illustrate why I personally don't give a damn about ratings, Yanks love them though:D, Voetbal International rated the performance of Erik with a 6!
The raters with different views must have been watching the match in parallel universes.

  20. Mets, who was, aside from shiet, being a desinterested player and therefore benched, has been transferred to Greece. Good riddance.

  21. Just look at the track Robin Gosens, a German player, took!
    He went to modest Eredivisieclubs:
    upload_2019-3-15_12-10-33.png
Now he's on the radar of top clubs like Milan and BVB:

Robin Gosens (l.) liebäugelt mit einem Wechsel zum BVB
Schon seit Längerem wird Robin Gosens von Atalanta Bergamo mit Fußball-Bundesligist Borussia Dortmund in Verbindung gebracht. Der Spieler selbst hat die Gerüchte um einen Wechsel zum BVB unlängst befeuert.

As I wrote in another Yank thread to illustrate you are being watched by foreign clubs, even in very modest clubs like Heracles and eventually investing in yourself instead of going for the short term "high" paycheck is the most profitable way to go.
As a defender you donot have to play for our big teams, in contrast to the 'Dutch lousy defenses mantraists" are claiming.
Facts matter and this one tells tales I've been trying to sell for years to those who stray from the truth.

    Winoman repped this.
  22. For a league not rated that high by foreign fans and press the league has a disproportionate interest of top clubs in Europe for even the low flying clubs.
This illustrates the why of it, Gosens now is on the radar of two of the most prestigious national teams in the world, The German and the Orange team:

Bald Nationalspieler?

Is this the right time for MLS clubs to inquire with City for him? I'd hope he battles hard and finds another Belgian/Dutch club for next season.
