Interesting. I don't know enough about Bremen to comment on their loan/youth development. Is this common for them?

I am legit interested if anyone is a close Bremen follower - how likely is a loan for Sarge next season and who/where would be the likely contenders if it was likely?

uuhhhhh... do you remember the big Derby between Schalke and Dortmund a couple years back, maybe 1.5 years ago, when Wes got subbed out after like 30 minutes? He looked like a lost puppy out there. Didn't stop his upward trend..I'd have to look if benching or reduced playing time immediately followed. The point is, Wes has had bad games but he has shown he is capable and the coach has gained trust in him.

Sarge is in a good spot. I don't see why they'd loan him. Old man Pizarro is about done, Bartels is not going to be what he was, Max Eggestein will move on soon (rumor has it), so if Sarge is good enough he'll have more chances.

Naive is thinking that for one game day an 18 year old Yank is not on bench and therefore his career is over. Is our leash shorter? Maybe. But, I don't think it is as short as it was 10 years ago.

IF Eggestein leaves, then Sargent chances of staying are much better. No doubts about it.

Bremen loan players out at the usual rate in the BuLI: four to six per season. Right now they have four loaned out, plus the guy who returned from Wien and didn't find anyone to take him.

Ah yes, the current loanees are in the 19-23 age range.

The day any player who isn't an automatic starter (and a star player to boot) has two bad games in a row - or even two bad games out of three - you can be sure there's a real chance he'll be riding the pine at the weekend.

And if he's an emerging prospect who's still in his teens, you can bet your bottom dollar he'll be benched for a more experienced player. There's no need to pile the pressure onto an inexperienced lad, let alone run the risk of the crowd turning on a potentially valuable prospect and destroying his confidence.

I have a solid record here. If I see it with a player, I say it. If I don't see it, I also say it. I'm usually correct.

I see it with Sargent. But I don't trust Bremen. As I said, he'll get another shot. Hopefully is not one of those games where a bencher cannot do anything in 30 minutes.

Jeekers, you guys get grouchy when our guys don't play. It's like Lord of the Flies in here. Well, sort of.

Anyway, pleeeeeeeeeease ease back from posting about other posters. And I deleted a post with a random political reference, 'cause that's usually a prelude to things really getting rough and I need my chi adjusted before I can deal with that stuff.

Above all, remember bungadiri's prime directives for YA:
    1. It's possible for a reasonable person to like both scotch and bourbon, but not on the same day.
    2. If you post naked don't tell us about it.
    3. It's all about me.

    He’ll get his chance again.

His confidence seemed to keep going down after his 3rd game. Nothing some goals in Bremen II can’t solve.

Sounds like either he is injured or he’s just getting some rest. This is his first year of pro soccer- that’s a big adjustment. A little rotation off for rest here and there might be a good idea.

Why would J. Eggestein leave? Why loan Sargent? Werder are pushing for Europe and in good shape as a club. I expect next year will look a lot like this year for them. They'll sign another 30ish year old vet to replace grandpa and those guys get hurt. So they have a need for cheap squad players like Eggestein and Sargent.

Bartels is back. Werder is pushing for Europe. I expect Sargent is buried on Werder II for the bulk of the rest of the season. There's only 10 matches left at this point. He got a run a games and I wouldn't expect substantial first team game time the rest of the year. It is what it is.

You have a solid record of being negative about players abroad, especially if they arent getting the minutes people think they should be getting. If I could get even odds betting against players making it to the highest level, I would be very, very rich.

After Pulisic's first start he went back into training to work on the stuff that showed up as deficient in actual first team competitive match play. Wouldn't be surprised if that's what they are doing with Josh.

Having said that, a coah has to let his winnings "run" when the time is right and Bremen were / are on a winning streak before Josh came up, because of injuries, for a few games.

I never thought he should have started a game, anyway. He'll get his chances altho they will be less considering the team is really on a streak and wants to compete for a European football spot. The first priority of the team just isn't "get Josh or somebody else on the pitch who can make a difference" at the moment.

I believe they break the BL record for games with at least one goal scored if they score in their next 2 or 3 games - I don't remember exactly which. Would you want to be the manager who steps in and says "now for something completely different....."

I’m not posting naked if I’m wearing scotch and bourbon in my lap when I do it.

    I mean, like, hypothetically.

He's gonna end up with a couple hundred minutes and a couple goals, which are numbers we all would have taken at the beginning of the season.

I do hope if he's not going to be in the 18 more often than not that he gets minutes with the U23s though. He needs to be playing, one way or another.

Okay...nope, I couldn't stop myself from picturing this. Dammit, man, that's why it's a prime directive.

To your first question: not JoJo but Max, his older brother is rumored to be leaving. To your second: I don’t know.

To other comments about Bartels being back: I love Bartels (he coached a training session for my son’s team back in 2010 or so) but I am wondering if he will ever be back to his old 100%. He was out a long time and isn’t a young pup anymore. If I read between the lines correctly in what Kohfeldt has stated all season it seems Sarge is in the long term plans. I suppose that doesn’t rule out a loan but I would be surprised if they loan him out.

not sure what M.Eggestein staying or leaving is in any way connected to Sargent, unless people think Sargent will be a CM? If M.Eggestein leaves he'll be replaced by a midfielder,
