It's interesting with De Gea allegedly pulling an Ozil/Ramsey/Alexis that this seems to be becoming a thing According to the pundit class, one should simply cave in to De Gea because he can't be replaced at a sensible price so you just have to pay him what he can get on the open market with sign on fee. Arsenal paid the money on Ozil but decided not to on Ramsey. Seems Utd are so far refusing to pay. IMO there are two big issues with this 1. Utd cannot just give Alexis parity to DDG because this will obviously destroy their wage structure. Which shows the mistake of signing Alexis. What goes around comes around 2. If players are not signing extensions with 2 years to run - you must sell the player to recover your transfer value Utd seem to have made the same mistake Arsenal made on Alexis/Ozil/Ramsey All 3 should have been sold sooner and not allowed to turn their contracts down.
I do wonder if "pulling a Ramsey" has kind of broken the transfer system a bit for the top 2-3 players at a club Why sign a new contract? You might as well run down (if the club lets you) and capture a pay bump plus "signing on fee" which is a % of your own transfer fee So like - why would Pogba reup, unless his new contract 2 years out, effectively includes "signing on money"
e.g. if clubs like Barca or Madrid or City would pay 150m to sign Pogba, then he should not reup with United unless he gets a % of this money Otherwise better to hold out over the last 2 years The only way to stop this, is if Utd sell him immediately to claim the 150m themselves.
Sort of. Jose leaving and Ole coming was more significant in terms of their steady climb back up the table
Yeah but if he wasn't saving them points while Mou was in charge they would need Ole and a delorian to get anywhere near the top half of the table.
Big Daddy Wengz said this was going to happen 2-3 seasons ago. Transfer will become a thing of the past and footballers will become true free agents. I’m all for it.
Roma fired their manager yesterday and have parted ways with Monchi today. Opting to start over with a clean slate in the FO. The Monchi to Arsenal claims are sure to pickup shortly. Nice thing about this is that he could join immediately and hopefully have some deals finalized before the window ever opens.
Certainly hope so. It'd be nuts to intend to bring him in but not have his input on important summer business until June or July.
Sure, I'd be prevaricating if I said I had any basis for an opinion one way or another. My main is that if this is indeed happening, it should happen early enough so that he's involved in the process. I get the sense that one of the reasons the Ramsey thing went south was that Gazidis really wanted him to stay regardless of what Raul thought, but once the former left, Raul said, "yeah --- no, not for that kind of money."
Depends on how you look at his time at Roma. I honestly think he did what Roma wanted. He cashed in on older players and brought in young guys with huge upside. There are a couple deals (NZonzi) that don't fit that MO but those deals have all worked pretty well for Roma given the overall circumstances. The underlying issue is that Roma as a whole have regressed. That's why they axed the manager
The older players he depended on this season have failed him most. Your Fazios, Dzekos, Florenzis, and so on. He wanted EDF to stay during yesterdays emergency meeting...but Pallotta, our president, overruled him and fired him anyways. So Monchi resigned, feeling he has no power or place now.
