Russians are known cheaters in international sport. Any positive results they get you should take with a grain of salt.
A contract extension for Altidore makes so much sense. Although Mexico would have been interesting, a return to Europe never made sense with his mixed record. Even if he succeeded, he would still probably find himself behind players like Sargent or Weah for the US national team, while failure could push him out of the picture entirely. So there would be a lot to lose. But if Altidore continues to hold produce like he has for Toronto FC, then that's probably enough to stay in the US soccer picture through the 2022 cycle. And even if Toronto reduced Altidore's salary in his new contract, I'll be stunned if it was a huge drop - he's an attacking player with a proven record in the league. It's his very popular Toronto teammate that will have the more difficult decision after 2019.
To an extent, yes, but it's built on bought foreign players, and it's less than a tier's difference. The talent level of the Russian domestics is no better than our squad, certainly not with the European-based contingent factored in.

I think he's going to set a new MLS personal best, there may be less competition for free kicks and penalty shots.
May be less? That is an understatement. Jozy has a pretty good free kick but he got little chance to ever use it with Giovinco there who admittedly had a great free kick.
A new personal best in bad first touches, tackles after the first touch, yellow cards for lunging after a poor first touch, sweating profusely after the first run? Sorry, I know it's not nice. He's 2nd on my list after Zardes and just before MB of guys I don't want to see getting called in.
The idea that only the Russians cheat is pretty quaint. In this day and age with all the billions of dollars tied up in sports and sports betting, everyone above a certain level cheats. The Russians are only guilty of one thing, getting caught.
Jozy was back in training and may debut this week. https://theprovince.com/sports/socc...yers/wcm/419b2bea-36e0-408e-a85f-eab3a250ff75
I guess the rest of the teams at the WC were just full of really lazy players, so Russians outrun everybody that much. Sure, poor guys have always been persecuted by mean WADA.

When Pozuelo gets on the field with Akinola and Jozy, like holy crap—gonna be fun watching defenses get shredded.
So far,so good. Jozy scored one, won the penalty, after forcing a turnover in the sequence and had some well saved attempts. NYCFC looked terrible but if you can't beat up on the bad teams, maybe you are one of them. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show (again)#TFCLive | #TORvNYC pic.twitter.com/Ec651MNF7P— Toronto FC (@TorontoFC) March 30, 2019 These are extended highlights. Jozy shows up a ton.
The goal by itself. Firmly dispatched. Worth the wait, eh?#TFCLive | #TORvNYC pic.twitter.com/2uSu1sLOXc— Toronto FC (@TorontoFC) March 30, 2019
if you don't want him called in, why put him second? and is zardes really your first choice from our entire forward pool?
