And it wouldn't make any sense. CONCACAF isn't going to engineer a conspiracy to eliminate a team that could draw 70,000 in the later rounds. There could be corruption somewhere in the mix, but it's not "CONCACAF ordered the ref to make bad calls."
135 out of 180 minutes played, and an MLS team is shutting out a Liga MX team, with an away goal under their belt. This... is not the CONCACAF I remember.
To be fair, they came super close on a corner early this game. Crossbar and bounced exactly straight down. Not a shot on target, but anything could have happened there.
This season and the last 2 tournaments have painted a different picture. We need to stop living in the past. MLS teams are actually good now. Let's enjoy it, and stop worrying about 4 1/2 goal leads in 2nd legs.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOL DE @SportingKC 😱Sorprenden a los Diablos y ahora necesitan meter 5 goles para clasificar😑@TolucaFC 0-1 @SportingKC (0-4) pic.twitter.com/pTGI6qpoP3— TUDN USA (@TUDNUSA) March 1, 2019 I love love LOVE hearing a Hispanic announcer give the GOOOOOOL call for SKC. Gerso is serving notice this year.
Toluca has 1 goal in its last 7 games + this one. They are a distaster. KC playing great, great futbol though, totally deserved
https://www.flashscore.com/match/QZDavLjQ/#match-statistics;0 says SKC has 57 percent of the possession and 291 passes. https://www.concacafchampionsleague...ue/game-detail/459509#tab_match=match-details says SKC has 38 percent of the possession and 113 passes. There's a good chance of SKC or Atlanta winning the bottom half of the bracket. If SKC holds on tonight and beats Independiente and Atlanta beats Monterrey, there will be a Semifinal between two MLS clubs. The last time that happened was what Wikipedia calls the 2000 CONCACAF Champions Cup, but it was in 2001. The only two times MLS clubs met in the Semifinals were when every game with an MLS club was in the USA.
Bah, Statistics. 80% of the time they're 20% of the time off by 37.2378 % of the time. It's settled science, man.....
Trivia time. In the 2008+ version of CCL, MLS teams have won 5 aggregate series vs Liga MX teams (vs 21 losses). 3 of them by Canadian teams (MTL, TORx2), 2 by US teams (SEA, NYRB). If SKC finish off Toluca, SKC will be the first US team to win an aggregate series vs a Liga MX team with the second leg in Mexico. (TOR did this feat twice last year)
We're Kansas City sports fans. It's who we are. That whole "Arrowhead is the loudest, most intimidating NFL Stadium" stuff? We lost 6 straight home playoff games.
And even if there is corruption in the mix, there are more discreet possibilities than fixing the actual result.

I went back and found this post I made years ago, and I just finished updating it. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/20...quarterfinals-r.1999011/page-50#post-29744325 I'll post the update after this game.
