Yeah, no. Not yet. KC has been in this position, then shipped 5 goals in Mexico. We're only 8 minutes in. Let's hold on a bit longer, or get a second goal.
Lesson time. 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League. First Leg at Sporting Park SKC 1-0 Cruz Azul Second Leg in Mexico SKC scored - up 2-0 with the ever valuable away goal SKC missed a couple golden chances, maybe they missed a PK, I forget. Five goals later, Cruz Azul won the game 5-1 and the series 5-2 on aggregate. I'd like to wait for the wave attacks from Toluca to subside before calling this one.
They weren't up 4-0 though, right? Anyway, no pressure Sporting. If you blow this, it will only be the most embarrassing collapse in MLS's illustrious continental history.
The best was in the Copa Merconorte when the Trinidad refs didn't show and KC found out less than half an hour before the game that local Torreon refs were going to be used. Santos Laguna won the game 4-2 in which KC got two red cards and Santos scored on two PKs. There was a Chicago Fire game at Saprissa back in the day that I still don't believe. I'm sure Chris Armas remembers it well.
Toluca sits at 8750 ft. That's high. Cool background story here https://www.kansascity.com/sports/mls/sporting-kc/article226893424.html
It's so funny - the ref is from Guatemala. When Johnny Russell complains to him in his thick Scottish brogue, there is zero chance the ref can understand him.
If we blow this it still wouldn't be the most embarrassing loss in CM/CCC/CCL play for the club. The 7-1 drubbing at Monterrey comes to mind. And the early USOC period of the club has a few losses to amateur sides.
LOL at Toluca complaining about their "goal" called back. Ref literally spraying the line when ball was played... to an offside player!
In defense of those that thing this is over This Toluca team isn’t nearly as good as that Santos Laguna team This SKC team is Waaaaaaaaaaay better than that SKC team.
