https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...onto-fc-agree-terms-new-contract-through-2022 Jozy extends his stay in Toronto.
Smart move by TFC. Jozy has been a monster for TFC "Altidore, currently returning from ankle surgery, has 52 goals and 16 assists in 99 regular-season and playoff games for Toronto. "
I don't know. I'd love to have seen him go to a Mexican club. Though he'd have slashed his wages; it'd be a great career boost for him. How does he feel with young guns like Weah and Sargent due soon to replace him?
He's very sad and has a good cry about it with Bradley every night before they go diving in their Scrooge McDuck money bin.
You mean Josh Sargent who just signed a contract extension today, after his terrible performances lately?
He's not done anything to become one of their top two options up front, so he's not going to be getting consistent minutes. That's going to be a problem.
Sargent's a pup. He's not paid what they're paying those ahead of him and there's no reason to force him into the lineup. Give him another season. He's still top 2 in our pool IMO.
The point is this cycle, not the next one when Sargent will be in his prime. For this cycle, I fear Jozy will still be needed as a starter.
I understand but 'this cycle' is meaningless other than to get the new coach familiar with his talent pool so the next WC isn't a disaster. At least to me. Move on from Bradley, Jozy, Guzan, Zusi, etc. They have shown us what they have left internationally and we best find some new options. I too think Jozy is invited for a couple more years. I just wish it wasn't true. I'm not looking for wins now.
I've always said this cycle is prep for the next one. We don't have the players to do well in Qatar. We may have the players to do well in 2026, and even better that it is at home. On the other hand, my optimism from 14 months back has been greatly tempered by the failure of the federation to put things in order (over a year with a weak interim, still no youth coaches), the fact that I'm a lot less rah-rah over the MLS at this point, and the abject failure of about half of our guys who were getting pumped as top players in Europe. I think making the QF in 2026 is still a reasonable goal, but barely.
This time you made the right choice Jozy! “Every time I've got to this point in my career, I've always made a so-so decision, going to places where you don't know what is next,” explained Altidore. “Here I have an idea of how we want to play, our players, what we've been able to produce, and I know the staff really well. I felt that for my career, to keep improving, this was the best choice for me.” “His salary is going to be different,” added Manning. “Still amongst the highest in the league.” https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/02/28/toronto-fc-happy-lock-focal-point-jozy-altidore-new-deal
