...they move the men around just as much. no? your argument for them being the cash cow, i’m not sure. ??? as a general rule the mnt brings in a lot more revenue than the wnt. depending on how you pick the 4year cycle, sometimes the mnt brings in close to double what the wnt does. https://www.si.com/planet-futbol/2016/04/06/uswnt-us-soccer-wage-discrimination-revenue-unequal-pay plus, afaik, the members of the mnt don’t have to be paid to survive, they make their $$ from their clubs. otoh, us soccer has to fork over close to a 1/4 million dollars per player to keep wnt players in the game. if you’re going by raw capitalism, the wnt players probably don’t yet deserve the same as the men. (it will get there). but, as in other sports, it simply seems the right and fair thing to do to pay them equally. especially if you want to grow woso.
Thanks hotjam2. I’m in the UK so watching it on the bbc. However, if you find on for USA v Japan I’d REALLY appreciate that as we don’t get any USA coverage here. Cheers
[ENG-BRA] 49' 1-1 England roll a vertical pass to Kirby between 2 at 22m mid-left. Kirby lags a perfect soft pass through box top mid-left, White follows it to 11m mid-left. One-touch left foot shot across mouth outswings past Aline's sprawl, into right side netting just behind right post low. Brasil's RCB had White's entire body screened from the goal, except her left shoe. 58' 1-1 The intensity has gone way up. Carney crosses from arc top wide left, Erika jump-heads it across but not up. Ball continues to 8m right post waist-high, Parris gets an awkward lunging half-dive twist header, soft but to right post low, Aline dives and catches.
62' 1-1 Kirby pounces on a loose ball at 30m box right, darts to 24m mid-right, quick toe-poke pass through box top mid-right. Carney sets a moving screen on one defender, White runs past both on the right, catches up to ball at 9m mid-right. Aline charges out and slides hands-first, White muffs her one touch try (ball trickles harmlessly over endline right), lifts right shoe above Aline's oncoming ribs -- but her left knee(?) spears Aline in the ... lower torso. Ahem. (cough) 64' 1-1 Many England crosses, as Brasil are oddly playing defend-and-counter. Brasil go on an end-to-end fast break, but shoot way high from arc top mid-left.
66' 1-1 England subs in: - (1 of 6) #22 Beth Mead for #20 Karen Carney - (2 of 6) #17 Rachel Daly for #18 Isobel Christiansen. 67' 1-1 Kirby sprint-dribbles up box right lane again, another early toe-poke pass through box top right springs Parris past the LB. Parris veers down box right to ~10m mid-right, quick rising shot toward right 90 blocked by Aline ready for that. This seems to be England's idea: quick attacks up the wings, with the frontline expecting those fast vertical through-balls to arrive. When they can't do it on a full run, they swing in traditional crosses. Brasil seem content to cede possession and play for counters. They're actually a tad (or greatly) impatient, quickly settling for long shots instead of just holding the ball in England's box.
75' 2-1 Kirby turns at midfield mid-right and dribbles unopposed to 25m, as Brasil's backline all backpedal by design -- actually, they have to, just to stick to England's front-line who maintain 10m spacing ahead of Kirby's run. Kirby taps rightward to Mead unmarked past box top wide right -- both of Brasil's defenders are distracted by White timing her cut past them. Mead touches to 7m box right, lines up a shross -- no, it's a straight golaaaaaaaaaaazo into left side netting high. Struck with power, zero arc. Maybe don't let Kirby just run at will and make any pass she wants.
Solid victory by England over Brazil. Marta seemed to run out of gas in the second half. Has age (33) caught up with the GOAT? I love watching Rachel Daly. She played right back as a sub and did well. I like her even better as a striker....but England does all right up top.
[USA-ENG] 06' 0-0 O'Hara crosses from ~box right, off crossbar 1/3 left, drops at left post and Japan just manages to clear. Horan is not starting (must be a training ding), so ... Pugh in midfield 08' 0-0 Morgan vertical pass leads Rapinoe 1/4 step ahead from 30m through box top mid-left -- alas, she gets chased down from behind, perfect slide-tackle takes ball away. Ball squirts rightward, just past Heath overpursuing centerward. 09' 0-0 Through-ball springs Heath onside and alone through 10m mid-right. Heath creeps in, cutback pass toward Morgan near spot intercepted. 10' 0-0 Japan quick combo down box right, cross blocked over by Davidson. 11' 0-0 Off the ck, Japan quick give-and-go down box right springs Yokoyama behind Dunn and Ertz(?). Yokoyama dribbles to 6-top mid-right, shoots right instep rising across mouth past Naeher, off crossbar center, deflects up and across.
SheBelieves Cup 2019 is a testbed for three potential IFAB law changes: https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...w-rules-to-be-piloted-at-2019-shebelieves-cup A player being substituted must leave the field of play at the nearest point on the boundary line. Yellow and red cards for misconduct can be issued to team officials. On a goal kick and a free kick for the defending team in their own penalty area, the ball is in play as soon as the kick is taken so a player – or opponent as long as they started outside the penalty or were not given the proper time to exit the penalty – can play the ball before it leaves the penalty area. #3 seems to legalize the stuff-block goal off opponent's gk as long as you weren't given the time to get out of their box, and you sneak up from behind en route --
As a fellow American expat (although not in the UK), I'm just going to say that VPN's are your friend.
Even in the US a VPN is the one of the safest ways to browse the internet and, even if not used to overcome geoblocking it makes everything, mostly, easier and safer. The good ones are pretty safe and good BUT there are VPN's that are not so safe as some record browsing data and will share that when asked by almost anyone. Second the free VPNs are not a good idea as you generally get what you pay for. I also recommend that you use a VPN that installs on your router as that means that every device connected to your network goes through the VPN.
Hmm, I didn't know about this: three new IFAB rules are being piloted/trialed at this SheBelieves Cup. https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...w-rules-to-be-piloted-at-2019-shebelieves-cup Thread on it in the Referee forum: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/new-rules-to-be-piloted-at-the-2019-shebelieves-cup.2100786/
A player being substituted must leave the field of play at the nearest point on the boundary line. I did not notice any players exiting the field for substitution at any location other than at the center so that change does not seem to matter much and it is not being enforced, at least yet. Yellow and red cards for misconduct can be issued to team officials. This is basically just a cosmetic change that few people will ever notice. On a goal kick and a free kick for the defending team in their own penalty area, the ball is in play as soon as the kick is taken so a player – or opponent as long as they started outside the penalty or were not given the proper time to exit the penalty – can play the ball before it leaves the penalty area. This just eliminates the foul without real penalty of touching the ball before it leaves the area. This is the only new change that may have a real impact on the matches BUT it will take some time for teams and players to adjust to the change and take advantage of what is now allowed. I can see several way that teams can take advantage of this change. I do not see any real reasoning for any of these changes but they also will make little difference in the play on the field.
I noticed one, but I can't remember who it was. I think it was a Japanese player. I was sitting on the side of the stadium with the benches. It was when two substitutes came on at the same time, and I was a little puzzled for a moment because I only saw one player walking off. Then I noticed a player in a white uniform walking along the far sideline. She walked all the way around the around the end of the field to the bench. Could the fact that I can't remember who it was be connected to the fact that by the second half of the US-Japan game, I was shivering uncontrollably, thus addling my brain? If I were FIFA, I would be worrying that this change could lead to abuse at some lower level than national teams, since there is no one checking whether the old player has left the field. Or maybe there is. Maybe the AR on the far side is supposed to check.
More than that, in rivalry situations (think men's soccer, less so women's), it could lead to abuse heaped on the player by fans. It could even be worse in a youth situation where the player could be exiting near the opposing team's parents. It's also a logistics mess for referees at the youth level where you often have unlimited subs, and coaches make wholesale changes. It's a ridiculous change, imo, especially since it only would seem to be saving a few seconds. The word "must" also makes me wonder about enforcement. What is the referee supposed to do if a player doesn't? Give a yellow to the player just subbed out? Anyway, I like the other two potential rule changes.
