It will be very interesting to see what kind of squads each nation sends. From a European perspective Portugal has probably there best u20 side since the team that went back to back in the early 90s, they are the first team in Europe in a specific age bracket (1999) to win both the u17 & u19 euros. There staring lineup if at full strength is really quite impressive highlighted by the frightening talent of Joao Felix.

France, Italy also have very strong sides and will be very difficult to beat.

Ecuador seems like the best team coming out of the Sudamericano.

That said , we don't know what European based players will be allowed to play for some of the teams.

Colombian media is saying there will be at least two reinforcements. I am not sure about Argentina but if the bring some good euro based talent they can be a threat to win the whole thing . Uruguay will be hard to beat too but they have a new manager.

The tournament takes place in late-May to mid-June. Not sure why UEFA clubs would have a problem with under-20 players leaving.

    Great experience at an international-level
    versus
Playing (or sitting on the bench) for the final domestic league match of the season + farting in front of their PlayStation for 3 weeks.

True. However, some clubs just don't want their hot young commodities playing in a tournament like this for various reasons. But you are right, in theory there should not be too many clubs turning down requests.

I look forward to seeing New Zealand. Sarpreet Singh has set the A-League alight and it will be interesting to see if he can do the same for the Kiwis.

I think Colombia will make a deep run though. At the Sudamericano they were really lacking a goalscoring presence up front and I think Cucho Hernandez is that man to fix their goalscoring woes. They had no problems at all taking over games, just the goals were missing.

From your keyboard to God's eyes. :p

Huge fan of the potential of Cucho.
He just has an "it factor" I do not see in most Colombians his age. Plays with the guts and hard nosed edge you typically see from Uruguayans and Argentinians in cold blooded attacks.

Can’t see Portugal taking Joao Felix, he will definitely be with the Senior team. A shame as it would be nice for him to finish the journey with a very special Portuguese generation

Italy missing Keane, Tonali & Zaniolo really takes them to a point where they will really have to play out of their skin to compete with France & Portugal. It’s a shame they won’t be at full strength but Portugal is missing Felix & Quina which are big losses too.

I hope you're right but I don't see us this strong. It took us Pogba, Kondogbia, Umtiti, Zouma to win it. This year I see our two CBs: Kamara won a long-waited spot at Marseille (and as they say "when you make it in Marseille, you can make it anywhere") and Saliba, one of our youngest, is considered as "the new Varane".

Apart of that there's not much that I know of. I don't know Cuisance yet. Gouiri was extremely promising but he lost a whole year due to a cruciate ligament injury. Pintor was never seen on the senior field. Moussa Diaby lacks many skills. Moussa Sylla played a bunch of matchs with Monaco and didn't even scored once; no matter how a mess his team was, it's not encouraging.

I'd rather put my coins on our U21 Euro team. That said, between me and Betclic, I already know who would win, so... :ninja:

Excited to see how the USA plays today against Ukraine.
It must be noted that some of the very best U20 age players are not on the roster due to the Senior Team Gold Cup.
It is still a very talented squad with potential though.

Is this tournament on Fox or Spanish TV in the USA?

Most of the games are on Fox Sports 2 and Fox Soccer Plus in English.

Uniiverso in Spanish with some Telemundo sprinkled in for Mexico and Weekend Latino matches.

Gotta give credit to Ukraine. They took more advantage of defensive mistakes and their organized game plan prevailed.

Next US has to play Nigeria so their tournament could be over before their postcards from Poland reach home. Although I guess its possible to advance even with just 3 points if you have a decent goal difference...

Yes. Playing against a team like Nigeria is not ideal. But at this age level anything can happen. I am hoping for at least a draw.

Panama with the first positive result for CONCACAF. I never would have thought that a couple days ago.

A draw against the African Champs. Not bad at all.

I watched almost all games, IMO the top 5 contenders for the title are (in this order):

    1-Portugal
    2-Uruguay
    3-Italy
    4-France
    5-Nigeria

Colombia and Argentina could be around there as well but they didn't face serious opposition (neither did Nigeria to be fair).

Ecuador are south american champions but they generally lack that "big tournament posture" that other south american teams have.

Mexico is more hype than reality, I fear.

    I'm argentinian.

Today's score looks big but some good parts of the first half were bad. The defense and goalie were very bad in particular, making really childish mistakes. The VAR penalty and red card solved problems for our team even though they were going to win eventually because the south africans are pretty bad.

The coach made some questionable picks for the starting 11, leaving in the bench some of our best players from the south american championship. He'll have to make changes because we're not winning the next match playing like today.
