I would say his best years from an offensive perspective, happened around 2015-2016. 2017 would be more accurate of a statement.

A lot of offense moving through him. Looks vintage Fab: professionally competent, smooth on ball, fairly fast, sleepy-eyed.

Good description. You can tell he is an elite athlete just watching him run a few strides.

Good point for BMG. Not Fabio's best outing ever. I only half-watched but he (and BMG) looked a bit out of sync at times.

Yeah, he looked good. No notable mistakes, some very nice passes, and at least three big defensive plays. Maybe he was hoping for the whistle a little too much, and the ref wasn't buying it, I think Thorgan used up all the spare whistling. This was a fun game to watch as a neutral.

Frankfurt is a tough team to play away. Gladbach matched the point obtained by Dortmund at the BP. A bit surprised that Fabian managed 90', he's going to need some rest now. Last time they started him twice in a row he was out injured for almost a month.

The one negative I can remember is Johnson wasting a brilliant first half opportunity on a counter off an Eintracht corner. Johnson picked up the ball at the center of the field with acres of open space in front of him, but he dribbled too slowly and didn't make a pass, so one of the Eintracht defenders sprinted back and cleaned him out.

Whether Johnson has a future with the US or not, I'm guessing it's more likely to happen as a defender than an attacking player.

Not a particularly good game for Fabian or the 'Gladbach defense. Everything seems to be going Bayern's way to get the title as always.

What does Gladbach losing to Wolfsburg have to do with the title?

They were one of the teams on the run for it. After this loss, I'd say that ship has sailed.

I always liked him as an outside back. He was a good attacker and a very good fullback IMHO.

Berhalter: "I know Fabian very well. I have a lot of respect for him, before his game, he is a versatile player. Sometimes it is a gift and sometimes a curse if you have the ability to play in multiple positions. He has a great range of skills. Being as flexible as Fabian gives the coach tactical options. "

But it is questionable whether Johnson still has great prospects- at the World Cup 2022 in Qatar the Gladbach professional would be 35 years old.

Berhalter evasively: "At the last World Cup, a few players have played a lot at this age. When you get to that age, you take it course by course, game by game. I do not think you're planning another four years into the future. "

looks like he got a knock vs Wolfsburg and has been training individually.

Perhaps the knock has played into it, as Johnson starts today's match against Bayern on the bench.

Johnson was subbed on in the 76th minutes with Bayern 1-4 up, and it ended 1-5 final.

He's back starting for BMG, today at right back against Mainz. Not moving optimally, though.
