With the untimely death of the Cauldron Facebook Page (which was basically created to replace Big Soccer because we were becoming to "unwelcoming" to newbies), will we see an uptick in activity here from old users as well a new users driven here?

    Discuss.

I imagine Reddit will be the biggest immediate beneficiary, and probably in the long run too. A little uptick here wouldn't hurt, though.

Won't someone just start a new facebook page?
I realize the startup costs would be monumental, and the time invested would be overwhelming;). But I would imagine that even now someone is probably pocket-opening a new Cauldron page.
Seriously, I'd think that all SKC fans would be welcome.

Apparently, the FB demographic is part of the problem. The age group the Cauldron is targeting doesn't use FB. It's left to the geezers such as you and me. :)

I'd say the BS demographic is largely older than the Facebook one. But I can't think of a current popular form of group discussion among the youths. So it sounds like they're giving up because it's not doing everything they want... with no actual replacement to try to accomplish the things they do. Genius move.

Reddit is probably best for targeting the younger demographic, but could be something else out there that I'm too old to know about.

Wait.... Cauldron FB died? Why’d it die?

(Best US soccer developmental idea ever came from Cauldron FB: lock McBride and Wambach in hotel room with a bottle of liquor until a star is born).

The environment there had become quite toxic. Newer members were feeling shouted down by a small group of people who dominated the conversation. Mods were being threatened in private messages, it became more of a headache than it was worth.

Interestingly, it was this type of event that happened to me in the actual Cauldron back in 2001-02 that kept me from ever sitting there again.

Probably both. It's been a pretty terrible place to visit.
