Also if we are going to credit Master Class Douche Harkes, let’s also recognize Waldo for cracking Saarbrucken about that time.

Fredua, it’s time to retire. You had a few good games. But your attitude and work ethic were just not good enough.

    Or.....it’s bias against Americans.

Any chance Freddy could become a coach? I'd like to see him start out as an assistant somewhere, maybe at the college level (e.g. Univ. of Maryland or Georgetown?) He certainly could impart some wisdom about the game.

Freddy, Day 1: "Welcome to Team X. I am Freddy Adu, and I am your coach. Now listen carefully to me. You there? OK! Listen. Never forget this. You must do as I say, and never as I did. Get it?"

Now that I think about it, there's a dearth of African-American soccer coaches at all levels in the USA.

If I remember right Wynalda tried recruiting Adu when he was the coach (or GM? some front office position?) of a team in the USL/NASL, and said he would help get his career back on track. Adu was fresh off another one of his stints of playing at first then riding the pine, and thought himself above the US second division. Maybe Wynalda doesn't want to help him this time...

To the extent that Adu's difficulties can be traced to the very familiar "child celebrity struggles to adjust to adulthood" problem, I think that almost any lower-profile situation would have worked out better for him in the long run (even if it was less lucrative at the time). But there's really no way of knowing.

In Portugal right now doing some traveling and am lucky enough to attend the Porto vs Benfica showdown tomorrow. Was talking to a Benfica fan on the train and I mentioned Adu, and he kind of laughed and asked whatever happened to "that guy"? I wonder if they still have some Freddy Adu Benfica jerseys lying around somewhere...

It’s game day number one. No adu, it’s over. Will he announce his retirement at age 29?

Do you announce retirement from a career that never materialized? I guess so.

    Nah.

But we should soon see Freddy at an airport in Kazakhstan or something, followed by quotes from confused coaches.

Looks like Freddy's career lasted about five years longer than expected. But life is all about the journey, not the destination.

Man what I would give to have seen Adu called up to this latest roster for "veteran presence".....and then see him actually play as well....
