Yea he's tactically conservative and plays a really dry style of soccer.

Too much talent in Colombia This dude has no business coaching that team.

Well maybe the change in scenery will help him out.
Also, Colombia has historically had good defensive records especially in Qualifying so he won't need to help that out. Can't fix something that is not broken.
He did have Iran counter attacking efficiently and scoring off set pieces though. We need someone who can help us in those areas because historically we are poor in both categories.

Portuguese do not know him better than us. We had him for 8 years and know him really well. I was never his fan and always believed he is only a good assistant in senior level although he knows a lot about football. Personally I am happy we will not have him as our head coach anymore. However because of his effort for us and the fact that he was our head coach for 8 years, I wish him the best in Colombia as long as he does not face us.

Here are a few facts about him:

    1. SCP_16 is right about his conservative tactics and very dry style of football.

When you play against top teams, his main line up except your best and may be second best creative player (If your second best creative player is in the line up) includes only the players that have the following characteristics:

Willing to participate in defending, Run a lot, Aggressive, Physically Strong, but do not have much creativity to change the result of the game.

Except your best or second best creative player, all other creative players are benched even if he has to use a player with bolded characteristics out of his usual position. So except your best or possibly second best creative player, he benches all other creative players or he does not invite them because they do not have all of the bolded characteristics.

This style will make it very difficult for your best or second best creative player to do anything special because they also have to participate in defending. This style of football is called Respectable Loser IMO. Ex:

    Spain 1-0 Portugal in 2010
    Argentina 1-0 Iran in 2014
    Spain 1-0 Iran in 2018

    2. Based on his coaching philosophy, It is really hard to win when you concede the first goal but It will be very tough to not win if you score the first goal. We never won single official game with his management when we conceded the first goal but never lost when we scored the first goal. His teams score hardly and hardly can play ball possession football against top teams. However his teams usually concede goal(s) hardly as well.

    3. He does not likes to play friendly matches against teams that look clearly stronger than you. He prefers to play friendly matches against teams that are weaker than your team or at the best around your level. If you look at the list of friendly matches Portugal and Iran had when he coached both, It tells you enough about this.

There are many more characteristics/things about him which I could have said but told you the main ones I felt I should have said.

Here is a great comment from one of our fans in Bigsoccer about CQ (https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/asian-cup-2019.2091339/):

He is a good trainer, a good team organizer, a good youth scout, and an expensive but an excellent result base defensive manager.

What he is not good at:
    1. A good tactician specially a creative one.
    2. A flexible offensive base manager.
    3. A gentleman outside the pitch and in interviews.

He emphasizes so much on defensive tactics, physical strength, and parking the bus that kills the essence of the game. He has no attention to play makers, creative technical players and entertaining football tactics.

Based on my knowledge of CQ, here are the results I expect for Colombia in the group stage of Copa America 2019:

Argentina 1-0 Colombia (No matter if Argentina is in good or bad form for that tournament. 1-0 victory for Argentina is strong possibility. If Colombia is very fortunate in that day, It will be goalless draw)
    Colombia 2-0 Qatar
Colombia 0-0 Paraguay or Colombia 1-0 Paraguay

You've just elaborated on the same exact point about Quieroz made above by SCP_16.

We already knew what he was like before he went to Iran!

I wanted to make HomietheClown fully aware of their current coach CQ. Beside that, I also wrote about some of his other characteristics as well.

Of course you guys knew him a lot better than us before he became our coach but now our knowledge on CQ is same as yours.

Good input. I respect the opinions since you do know him better than I do as I conceded.

As I said though Iran seemed to be pretty efficient in counter attacks and scoring off set pieces. In addition to that they seem to be pretty good at crossing the ball into the area.

I am not expecting him to be a miracle worker and help us instantly in all three of those weak categories (come Copa America) but I do expect him to have higher standards and help us improve within the four year cycle progressively.
I don't know if you guys know this but we have players like Yerry Mina, Falcao, Duvan Zapata, Davinson Sanchez etc who know how to score goals and put headers on target consistently for their club teams but rarely get good service or crosses in the run of play or on set pieces for the National Team(Although that did change a bit for Mina in the World Cup but I digress.)
I am sure Queiroz is coming into the situation and licking his chops knowing about all the toys he has to play with in the area of opposing teams.
That is what I am looking forward to the most even if we do play a bit conservatively or defensive as you guys point out. I don't mind organization and discipline.
Uruguay made it to a Final Four of a World Cup that way and I think this Colombian team is as talented as that 2010 Uruguay team.

Now this is the issue that most concerns me:
The comments about the creative players. If he does not become a bit flexible or lenient towards the creative players being allowed to be free then that does make things a bit tricky.
Colombia plays their best when guys like James and JuanFer Quintero can go out there and play with imagination and with freedom.
I am hoping the Colombian coaches and advisers working with him will point this out and emphasize it with him or else it could be the main detriment and things could go badly.

You will see this issue against teams that are stronger than you or around your level on the paper.

Regard bolded part, he will be but only against teams that look weaker than you on the paper.

Not to sound cocky here but there seems to be a lot of teams who look weaker on paper than Colombia. At least in the Region. ;)

When I said weaker, I did not mean teams that are slightly weaker than you. I meant teams that are clearly much weaker than you. In Conmebol region, only bottom 2-3 teams look much weaker than you.

When he chooses more offensive and creative line up against better teams, his teams do not know how to play offensive and ball possession football. He is a result base defensive manager.

He is a good trainer, good team organizer, good in discovering new domestic players that are really national team material, but I just do not rate him as a head coach. He is not a competent tactician.

Anyway wish him the best in Colombia as long as he does not face us. Who knows? He may turn out a very good manager for Colombia.

It will be interesting to see how it develops because Colombia has so many skillful players who do know how to keep possession and attack.
If he chooses players who do not know how to attack but fit into his system then he will be criticized unmercifully (unless he does get positive results) because those type of players are usually unknown or just plain at a lower level of quality.

I hope we see more of what he did at Madrid than what Iran was doing out there.

    @ HomietheClown:

Carlos Queiroz (CQ) is also expert in making preemptive excuses incase of a failure. It was fairly easy for him to do that in Iran but fortunately that will not be the case in Portugal/Colombia for him. This is one more thing I wanted to make you aware of him and Portuguese fans know this very well like us.

    So true.

His tactically antiquated, and in my opinion, has no business managing a team with talent like Colombia.

Well then, I hope he does not fail then. LOL

Seriously, he says he is going to build upon what Pekerman built. Rumor has it he has also decided to bring in some local managers plus the U20 coach as consulting advisers.
I hope he takes their advice and delegates his power a bit

Queiroz has officially made the Colombian U20 coach Arturo Reyes a part of his coaching staff as an assistant.
This is a wise move in my opinion since the team played some pretty entertaining futbol under him during the last handful of friendlies after Pekerman was relieved of his duties.

Hopefully Queiroz listens to a lot of what Reyes has to say about the attack and formation schematics

Well, in our last two Copa prep matches we defeated Panama 3-0 and Peru 3-0 and have looked attacking for the most part. Queiroz has used pretty offensive lineups, especially in the Panama match.

Saturday will be the true test of course. Gotta start off with Argentina in the Copa.
So far Queiroz is saying and doing all the right things but let's see how things go when the lights go on in Brasil.

    Stay tuned.

I disagree. I think Carlos deserves to manage a team with talent for once. He did really decent with Iran and contrary to what some people believe, he over-performed with our 2010 team in my opinion. Making the round of 16 that year was an over-achievement but we could have even made the quarters if it wasn't for bad officiating. Spain's goal against us was off-side. Should not have counted. Spain's world cup title in 2010 is stained because of that in my eyes.

If i had to choose between Carlos or Bento to be our manager, i am choosing Carlos. Bento was a B****.

I'd like to see Carlos and Columbia win the Copa.

    Great start so far.

Columbia are playing a very grindy Portuguese system. An organized machine. You look pretty close to us out there. Argentina looked lost. Carlos and Santos are very similar managers. I think you guys are going to win this tournament.

This post is completely in hindsight now that Colombia beat the midget.

And there’s no way Portugal overachieved with a squad that was in the World Cup semis 4 years earlier.

And comparing him Bento is weak, since they both suck ass.
