Yeah, heard that too. But waiting until summer seems to put us at a severe disadvantage for working within that window, unless he can unofficially start working for us between now and then?? I also wonder if there is little likelihood of signing a Sven replacement mid-season rather than waiting until Summer. Can't we pry someone loose? (Edu, Overmars or whomever)
I think that depends entirely on what your expecting Monchi to do for us. If he is in charge of negotiations, getting here in the summer may be too late. If he is in charge of identifying talent, maybe not so much. Is he not currently identifying talent for Roma? Would some of that talent not work out for us as well?
IDK there are a lot of potential conflicts of interest if you try to play both sides at once (current employer & future employer). I recall us recruiting some scout from Leicester several years back and as soon as they caught wind of the deal, the put the guy on "gardening leave". That guy, some supposed wizard, whoever he was, didn't work out well for us as I recall.
Yeah, but I don't see how that effected that scouts ability. Any given club is not going to sign every single player that a scout/TD identify. If that Leicester scout never did anything for us it wasn't because he had to sit and do nothing for a few months. It is either because A) he wasn't as good as advertised or B) our FO didn't pursue the talent he found for us.
Wouldn't be surprised if a promoted Chinese Super League side decides to splash the cash on Özil just to get their fans excited.
And I would LOVE a CSL club to overpay for Ozil considering we haven't found any other takers. Hopefully they offer him enough cash that he is willing to go to China vs sitting the bench in London.
Didn't Shenua give Tevez £600k/week after taxes? I can see some CSL side give Özil something close to £700k/week after taxes because they need a name for fans to get excited about.
Yeah sure. But wouldn't you think they'd be wanting to see him get playing time now, just to make sure he's still any good?
IIRC, wasn't Oscar getting next to no playing time under Jose and £65 million still exchanged hands? I don't dismiss your idea but it sounds like some CSL teams see a name and are willing to overpay in terms of the transfer fee and the wages to get them. That despite the fact the Chinese FA put an end to the transfer gold rush a couple of years ago by imposing some downright brutal taxes on such transactions.
pic.twitter.com/9EawtxBl49— Aaron Ramsey (@aaronramsey) February 11, 2019 I have to eat some crow on this one. Thought a premiere league team would come in hard for him when the number of our offer leaked. But 400k before tax is pretty hard to match. I’ve been a vocal critic of Ramsey’s fit in our squad, but he’s been a contributor and a class act so I wish him the best.
Fair play to Ramsey Hope he wins the cl there and everything else He was poor at times but undoubtably a great player miss used by wenger
Maybe, but he is clearly underused by Emery. If the goal truly is the Champions League, why not use him while you still have him. Which leads me to Ozil and his underuse. From Ornstein's interview on the Arsecast podcast: "I’ve been told that Emery had expressed to Ozil that it might be better for him to leave. What we don’t know, which you guys have pointed out in one of the previous Arsecasts, is whether that was the feeling of Emery, the hierarchy or if it was the feeling of both of them. I suspect that it was the feeling of both of them. However, if one party felt it more than the other, I suspect it was the hierarchy. Not using Emery as their puppet but expressing their feelings through him. It’s understood that Emery was quite keen to take Ozil when he was PSG coach and some vague discussions took place about him going as a free agent. I’d be surprised given Emery seems to be the type of coach who takes pleasure from getting the best out of his players if he wasn’t up for the fight. It feels more of a financially motivated decision coming from on high – Ozil being on £350,000 a week and him not producing the level of consistency that they want. Ozil’s view was that he’s not leaving, certainly not in January, and obviously, everybody will see what happens in the summer. I’ve been told that he’s training well and that he’s not a problem in the camp. However, the way he’s being used, or not used, it would appear that Emery is not playing him for the reason he’s trying to encourage him to seek pastures new in the summer." This bothers me. If trying to drive Ozil out is primarily a financial decision, I don't think it bodes well for Arsenal's future. I'd also add that its hard to be consistent when you don't play regularly.
Absolutely class that Ramsey is getting £400k per week while Stoke are close to entering administration.— Paddy (@PaddyArsenal) February 11, 2019
This is pure muppetry The board authorised a mega-contract for Ozil not a year ago only now to try to drive him out. What a complete waste of ££
It's the Gazidis/Sanllehi swap - Gazidis wanted to keep Ozil, and Sanllehi wants him out. Stop saying "the Board." We have a nominal Board, but it's nominal: Kroenke is going to be hands off no matter what. He's not going to put money into the club, but he's also not going to take much out of the club either.
Yes. But there is only one “fact” in the analysis and that is that Orni was told that emery told ozil it would be better if ozil left. As we’ve speculated here, ozil doesn’t really fit emery’s style off the ball. So it’s not that surprising emery told him he’d be better off somewhere else. Ozil is smart to wait it out if he doesn’t mind the bench especially since there is a lot of turnover—hell, Emery may not last. The club is responding, possibly, by depriving him of the appearances, goals and assists he needs to reach the incentive pay that makes up part of his 350k—at least that’s the theory that makes sense. And while, we may have been nicer to watch with ozil playing would we have more points if he’d played as many minutes as he did last season?
I've heard that about his incentive clause a few times. I find it quite hard to believe that the club's primary motivation would be to this marginal savings of money approach. I feel that a big component of this MUST be the quality of his performances or how his style doesn't fit well with Emery. But if the incentive clause is even a minor factor in the club's decision, that would be a bit of irony for the player/agent/lawyer who all must've felt that clause would only improve his experience at Arsenal. The whole Ozil situation has been such a waste, we just need to regroup and move on. And if that means him having to leave, we damn well better make that happen by summer.
Re: Ozil At this point the team should probably not say anything, because it likely only adds fuel to the fire of public speculation and concern over how our beloved club is being managed. We get that sometimes the relationship just doesn't work out so don't add anything else to the mix that might make it seem more petty or foolish than what it is. Because as a fan I don't really care about Ozil except in how it affects the club, so if I at least feel the club is trying to right its wrongs then I'll be fine in the end. Show me an earnest effort to win and I won't mind that a 350k per salary player is on the bench.
Yes it is. The media coverage is this is annoying me and very lazy, but I really did not expect any less.
I think the club is using it as a stick to push him out. “Stay if you want, but you’re 350 is now 250 because you won’t play enough, so might as well take 250 somewhere you’ll actually play.” Or something like that. The savings isn’t in denying him the incentives, it’s in the convincing him to go and go for a reasonable wage.
