Pelé is way overrated as a scorer

Garrincha is the most overrated dribbler ever from the footages I’ve watched. Hell, David Ginola was a better dribbler than him. I guess dribbling Prime Cristiano Ronaldo would be considered an elite dribbler in the 50s and 60s LOL. Pele was definitely a better baller than Garrincha.

If you truly believe this then there is no way you could consider garrincha one of the all time greats
As a general rule I don’t like to compare players from totally different eras

Garrincha is undoubtably one of the greats of his day perhaps even a pioneer
However I also think he lacked the professionalism and even the game IQ to make it in today’s game
It is pretty well known amongst old timers that garrincha was a simpleton
He played purely for the joy of the game (admirable quality for sure) the downside was he couldn’t handle the fame that came along with it
His squandered his earnings on booze and died relatively young
Garrincha wasn’t clued up about tactics so he literally played the way he wanted to
I think the game in his day actually encouraged expression and there was less emphasis on playing strategically
From a neutral perspective and as a fan I prefer to watch football from his era (the Brazil 1970 is still the greatest spectacle of this sport period)

Tactically they are very far behind today’s game particularly in the defensive aspects.

Garrincha with the current physical preparation would literally break, including mentally, most defenses of the best clubs, you see what he did in those videos, then... that's exactly what he would do today too, dwells on ball stoping the plays constantly and everything included. The most dominant dribbler of all time (that shows a very very high level in two consecutive World Cup's, exclusive for the best players), the most creative, an animal playmaker and even an efficient kicker of the ball.

His dribbling might seem simple, but it was literally impossible to defend, few did it effectively, very few.

Where is the evidence for him being a more effective wing playmaker than Luis figo (or even David Beckham and angel Di Maria.)
I don’t dispute the talent for dribbling however the most “creative animal playmaker” requires some footage

I’ve never heard of him being mentioned as one of the best ever crossers(not saying he wasn’t very good after all crossing is the bread and butter of all traditional wing players.)
IMO He was just a proficient crosser without being particularly outstanding

It should be noted, as I mentioned in another thread, that Garrincha was actually not picked for the '54 squad (and got booed by his own fans) because he was too individualistic and didn't stick with the system, so he was a bit of an oddity even at the time.

Impossible? Just park the bus, watch the guy dribble rings around himself, wait for the clock to wind down, profit. :D

or see your beautiful, little Scandinavian country being destroyed like in the 1958 final.

Your revisionism comes from sources that puts Zagallo and not Zico as the all-time best Brazilian players. :speechless:

This is a question I've brought up before. People look at those friendlies with today's eyes. We don't really know how seriously those teams took those friendlies back then. Either somebody has to do some research or get somebody who lived through that era to give some insight. First thing would be to look at lineups and see if they consisted of all starters. I am not saying it was competition level effort, but I'd venture to say the level of seriousness was higher than today's pre-season world tour friendlies. It is crazy the frequency of times they played during a week at times.

Now, I understand not crediting Pele with all those friendly goals, but I wouldn't completely discredit it.

Great team goal by Pelé as the scorer but also being heavily involved in build up
A little bit similar to this goal by Roberto Baggio

Where did you get this data from? I don't dispute it's flawed (Maradona just didn't have that many assists, seriously) but wonder your source.
