I’m guessing he gets time again on Saturday since that would be a pretty lengthy amount of time for their current group of strikers.

Hopefully that one poor performance hasn’t actually doomed him for the rest of this season .

I think I’m in the minority but I thought previous game was unimpressive as well.

No you’re not in the minority he was poor. I’m sure he’ll be given an opportunity at some point again.

It’s clear there’s plenty of talent with Sargent, but like any other player he needs more consistency.

For those of you familiar with the DFB Cup are there sides like Werder that would place it ahead of regular season games?

It depends on how far you get and the league game you're talking about. At this stage, the cup is super important for Bremen.

I wouldn't interpret too much into Sargent being left out of the squad yesterday. It was ~80% because of tactical reasons and ~20% due to his performance against Nuremberg.
However, in the next couple of weeks, it'll be a close call between him and guys like Pizarro, Harnik and J.Eggestein now that Osako is back from the Asian Cup. I don't think all of them are going to make the roster and Rashica has significantly raised his profile recently (and Kruse always starts).

In general mid-table teams prioritize cup competitions: they won't be playing for Europe spots, they won't be fighting relegation. So, the cup it is.

seems like Harnik is out for 6-8 weeks although Osako is back from Asian Cup.

The team looked weird on Saturday with Sargent starting the 2nd half. Not sure what was going on, exactly. In any case, Sargent looks like somebody who should be a late sub in most games, playing an extra scoring threat. Eventually, as the minutes give him more sense of what is going on we can think of a starting spot but for now I see him as a sub.

Surprised this was on the 2nd page.

    Sargent on the bench.

If he comes off he needs to show better than last game if he wants to get more playing time.

Playing at LM and just made a nice run down the touchline.

    And it's over...no stoppage time.

Pisses me off he wasn’t subbed in when Pizarro was.

If they needed a goal Sargent wouldn’t have gotten in the game at all.

Being up 3-0 is the one scenario where it makes plenty of sense to bring him in, but the coach waited until the last few min.

At least they’ve got another cup game to add a small bit of congestion to increase his chances of getting playing time.

Why? Pizzaro is a club legend and those kinds of players guys will be kept on for as long as they want to continue, if they can can still perform. If he still "has it" in July, another season makes sense for both parties. Sargent will only be 19 this time next year, and a sophmore slump is normal for players that age. Wouldn't be at all bad to have Pizzaro around as backup for Sargent, just like Sargent was Pizzaro's this season.

He got a mediocre game the other day and the short rope got shorter. They're invested in Eggestein, local* boy who may become big for their NT.

    Quarterfinals aren't until April, unfortunately.

They have 5 matches from now until the March international break, which I assume Sargent will be called up for.

If "the point is to play games", sure. If the point is to develop a talent and prepare a squad for next season, then maybe not.

As for "he ain't getting it with Bremen", he's 18, in his first pro season, and was playing RL ball against part-timers until December. Since joining the first team, he's played in seven out of eight BL1 games, averaging about 18' per game. Pretty damn impressive, to be blunt about it.

If he ain't getting PT with starts during next season's ruckrunde, then we can start talking about the pros and cons of going on loan. Until then, leave "the sky is falling on our heads" stuff alone.

I think Josh has a tremendous opportunity to learn from a legend like Pizarro. I hope a guy like Pizarro will take Josh under his wing and show him the ropes.

Sargent has nothing to learn from Pizarro at all.

Wait, sorry, I meant Josh Wolff can’t reach a 19-yr old anything.

I won't be so sure is such a good idea. There is a reason why Pizarro is no longer in Peru's national team. He likes to party too much and became a primadonna because of his Bud playing.

Germany is sorta big. So 1 hr could be forseeably local. Maybe even in the same province.

Cameo, 1 possession, gets ball out wide and drives down the sideline. Cuts it back and plays safe ball backwards. That’s it. Happy he’s getting on the field.

Bremen were 6 pts out of last Europa League spot at kickoff and had to win to stay within 3 pts. Mission accomplished.
