More freedom can be a tactic. And I agree.

Also, I think he was a CB for a bit. But I wasn’t ever really sure during the period. Or it could have been both.

We should just nickname Wes “Mikey”. He eats whatever shit sandwich coach serves up.

Yeah, right CB, my bad. General point remains the same.

Seriously, I think he played both. And both 6/8 in addition to center forward.

Wes had a solid game today. I loved those two forward long balls he put up the toght wong in the forst 15 minutes. Great passes with a perfect touch.

I'm glad he gets so many minutes, but I do wish he would solidify himself in a position or a part of the field. I know there is real value in flexibility, but general utility players never really rise to the top, they can end up filling in all over the field without ever making anyplace their own.

I don't think that's necessarily him -- rather Tedesco's positional Yahtzee. It's a testament to McKennie's footballing ability that he looks credible in these unfamiliar roles.

McKennie starts today for Schalke against Bayern. I don't see Wright in the 18.

I don’t mind McKennie playing up top sometimes but against Bayern at Bayern means he’ll probably see very little of the ball today.

Hope I’m wrong though and Bayern coughs up another loss.

Looks like we are starting off with Weston and Rudy in a 4-2-3-1 double pivot with Bentaleb at CAM. I assume the central trio will rotate and Weston will spend more time up front.

Wow, that is fantastic by Bentaleb drawing all that attention and then releasing McKennie on the attack.

OMG. He just ran through the entire BM team from his own half and laid off a great ball in the box. Came to naught, though. McKennie is an exciting player, wow. At least someone is getting some minutes today, and good minutes they are.

Schalke again were crap. Weston was their best player.

    Tedesco has to go

That mazing run leaving four players in his dust deserves a gif.

Highlight of the weekend for me.

Go where? It would have been nice if he had't lost a third of his field players last summer.

I agree. I'm not sure what Tedesco can really do with his current crop of players. It looks to me like he's desperately tinkering in an effort to find an XI that will produce the best possible result. The talent just isn't there. Oczikpa is, at best, a backup. Sane's had a rough year. No Meyer, no Goretzka, no Kehrer. Naldo (3rd place for German Footballer of the Year last year) is gone. Stambouli and Schopf are injured. He's not in an enviable situation.

I'm not saying he's doing a great job, but he's scrambling to put together a CL/Europa-level side with the few warm bodies still limping around.

McKennie’s performance helped make up a bit for the game time Pulisic and Adams didn’t get (2 minutes barely counts).

Bad take. Its the lack of quality in the squad not the manager.

I think that’s good advice, but it’s also nice that he can elevate and win headers. I haven’t seen any official stats, but he probably won ~12 headers today.

Ok I went to the McKennie watching party in Dallas and his mom was there. Got a free Schalke scarf and one of those thin backpacks. His mom was super nice and I got to talk to her a bit. Afterwards I thought of you all and this thread and realized I hadn’t asked her the most important question. I then found her again and asked if she’d settle an internet controversy. How tall is your son. She said 6-1. I repeated it back to her and she said yes 6-1 why are they saying he’s shorter? That’s all I need. Question answered.

My mom would also say i'm taller than what I am. That's what good moms do :p
